Rapper AKA has been shot dead in a drive-by shooting. AKA was standing outside the Wish Restaurant on Florida Road in Durban on Friday evening when he was gunned down. Two unknown cars are believed to have opened fire just before 10 pm.
AKA’s close buddy, who was also supposed to be his security, was killed along with a second individual who was reportedly the artist’s bodyguard.

Who shot AKA? Cause of death
Police confirmed that the duo AKA & Tibz got shot while having dinner at a restaurant in Morningside Florida Road Durban as they were leaving the restaurant to their vehicle,2x unknown Men opened fire on them, killing them instantly.
In the meantime, Florida Road had been closed following the shooting event where two persons have been confirmed dead, according to Garrith Jamieson, a spokesman for ALS Paramedics.
He acknowledged that the well-known rapper was one among the dead. Another person believed to be AKA’s bodyguard was also wounded, while another unidentified person, who is understood to be a close friend of AKA, has been shot dead.
According to social media posts, AKA was scheduled to perform at the YUGO nightclub in Durban as part of his birthday celebrations.

Who was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes?
AKA was a South African rapper whose real name was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes (28 January 1988 – 10 February 2023), also known as AKA. Forbes, who was born and raised in Cape Town, rose to fame after the release of the song “Victory Lap” from his debut studio album, Altar Ego (2010).
To build on his popularity, Forbes continues to release studio albums, such as Levels (2014), Touch My Blood (2018), Bhovamania (2020), and the joint album Be Careful What You Wish For with Anatii (2017).
Forbes appeared as a special guest on WWE Live events in April 2018 that took place in Johannesburg and Cape Town. He was the roastee for the Comedy Central Roast special in 2019. Forbes was killed in a drive-by shooting in Durban on February 10, 2023.

When Forbes and Matheba announced their romance in 2016, they did so while refuting the accusations. In December 2017, Matheba and Forbes parted ways. Forbes and Zinhle split up again later in 2019, although they reconciled in the latter part of 2018.
Forbes announced his engagement to girlfriend Nelli Tembe in a photo he shared on Instagram on February 21, 2021. Tembe passed away on April 11, 2021, in Cape Town after falling from a hotel.
Following Tembe’s passing, rumors about Forbes’ drug use surfaced. In response, he made a public statement stating that he would refrain from disclosing their marital issues to protect himself from “one-sided opinions.”
The rapper made his comments in response to a News24 article that claimed to have seen photos showing Forbes brutally smashing down a wooden door to get into the bedroom of their Bryanston, Johannesburg, residence, where Tembe was hiding. Nearly a month before she passed away, on March 13, 2021, is when the event allegedly occurred.
