• There are 25 Government Medical colleges in Tamilnadu, offering 3550 seats for MBBS.
• 1 semi Government Medical college in Tamilnadu, offering 100 seats for MBBS.
• Also, there are 15 Private Medical colleges in Tamilnadu offering 2150 seats for MBBS.

Tamilnadu medical colleges are of various kinds ensuring students study Allopathic medicine. Both Undergraduate (MBBS) and Postgraduate (MD or MS) courses are there. While considering medical colleges, there are three types.

• Government Medical college
• Semi Government Medical college
• Private Medical college

Here in this post, we are going to list out the number of medical colleges in each category and going to give a brief explanation about the seat matrix, reservation details, and Fee structure to Individual colleges.

Tamilnadu Government Medical Colleges

Totally, there are 23 Government Medical colleges in Tamilnadu as per National Medical Commission (NMC) list.

1. Tamilnadu Government Medical college seats

Each college varies in the number of seats for MBBS, Eg: some colleges offer 250 some offer 150 and others offer 100 seats per year. And these seats are allocated 15% to All India Quota and 85% to State Quota.

Total number of seats sanctioned under Government Medical colleges: 3550

Total Number of seats allocated to All India Quota (15%): 562

Total Number of seats allocated to State Quota (85%): 2988

State Quota seats in Government Medical colleges are further reserved to different communities and from each community also 7.5% of seats are reserved for Government school students studying in Tamilnadu.

2. Tamilnadu Government Medical college fees structure

Annual Fees for an academic year in a Government Medical College will remain almost the same for all 23 colleges. And it ranges somewhere between 90,000 to 1 lakh. Here for example we have given an annual fee structure for a typical Government Medical college.

Semi Government Medical colleges in Tamilnadu

Semi Government Medical colleges are those that are getting funds from both Government and a trust which holds the college. There are 3 semi government medical colleges in Tamilnadu. But in 2020 Government Erode Medical College & Hospital, Perundurai (Formerly IRT Perundurai Medical College) and Rajah Muthiah Medical College, Annamalainagar are taken down by the government, and the tuition fees for them are reduced to normal government medical college fees.

1. Tamilnadu Semi Government Medical college Seats

Semi Government Medical colleges also contribute 15% of their seats to All India Quota and 85% seats to State Quota.

Total number of seats sanctioned under semi Government Medical colleges: 100

• Total Number of seats allocated to All India Quota (15%): 35
• Total Number of seats allocated to State Quota (85%): 65

State Quota in semi Government Medical colleges seats are also further reserved to different communities and from each community also 7.5% of seats are reserved to Government school students studying in Tamilnadu.

2. Tamilnadu Semi Government Medical college Fees Structure

Except for Tuition fees, annual fees for an academic year in a semi Government Medical college will remain almost the same for all 3 colleges. And it ranges somewhere between 80,000 to 90,000. Tamilnadu Private Medical Colleges

Private medical colleges are those that are funded by an organization or a particular person.

1. Tamilnadu Private Medical college seats

Two types of Private Medical colleges are there which contributes different seats for different quota. One is minority Private Medical colleges which contribute 50% seats to Government Quota and 50% to Management Quota. Another is nonminority Private Medical Colleges which contribute about 65% to Government Quota and 35% to Management Quota.

Total number of seats sanctioned under Private Medical colleges: 2350

• Total Number of seats allocated to Government Quota: 1396
• Total Number of seats allocated to Management Quota: 954

Seats in Private Medical colleges are also further reserved to different communities and community reservations from Private Medical colleges under Government Quota are again reserved for Government school students (7.5%) studying in Tamilnadu.

2. Tamilnadu Private Medical colleges fee structure

Annual Fees for an academic year in a Private Medical college under Government quota vary from college to college. And it ranges somewhere between 6 lakh to 10 lakh. Here for example we have given an annual fee structure for a typical Private Medical college under Government quota.
