A Randall County constable died in an off-duty crash on Mother’s Day. Let’s see what happened to Jay Claxton in detail.

How did Sgt. Jay Claxton die?

Randall Country deputy, Sgt. Claxton has passed away after involving in an accident. Sgt. Jay Claxton was working on a boat that was parked on Buccola Avenue, according to Amarillo police. 

Around 8 p.m., an SUV driven by a 19-year-old female collided with the boat. Unfortunately, Claxton got stuck beneath the boat’s trailer and sadly died as a result of his injuries sustained in the incident. 

Sheriff Christopher Forbis stated, “Jay has long served this agency with distinction and if you knew Jay, he was your friend.” “Jay was the type of person that would show up any time of the day or night if you needed help.” 

His untimely passing has left the department in mourning, with heartfelt condolences extended to his family and friends.

Who was Wayland Jay Claxton?

Sgt. Jay Claxton has long served in Warrants Division at Randall Country organization with distinction. He was remembered as a great cop and a great friend. 

He was from Colorado City, Texas and he lived in  Amarillo, Texas. Claxton was remembered as a good person. His hilarious laugh and friendly character was cherished by his friends. 

Claxton was a genuine and kind soul. Tributes flooded social media after his sudden demise broke out.

Wayland Jay Claxton cause of death:

According to authorities, a Randall County Sgt. died after getting trapped under a boat trailer in a collision last night in southwest Amarillo. 

Wayland Jay Claxton, 57, a Sgt with the sheriff’s office, died last night, according to PIO Brandon Carpenter of the Randall County Sheriff’s Office.

Amarillo Police department reported that police were summoned to the intersection of Buccola Avenue and Nick Street on Sunday at around 7:56 p.m. for a crash involving a person. 

Police discovered that a silver SUV being driven by a 19-year-old female hit a boat that was parked on the side of the road. According to APD, Claxton was working on the boat when it crashed, and he got stuck below the boat trailer.

Because of the injuries, he passed away. APD Traffic Investigation Unit is currently investigating the incident.
