Sam Dickson, the brother of Joshua “Josh” McKenzie Dickson, a New Zealand rugby union player, and the son of Alex Dickson, a former Arks player, passed away. Let’s see how did Sam Dickson die and his cause of death in detail.

How did Sam Dickson die?

Sam Dickson passed away on May 25, 2023. He was only 24 years old when he died. Sam reportedly waged a protracted struggle before tragically passing away last night in the presence of his family. His family is in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time.

A statement from the Otago University Rugby Football Club was issued in response to the loss of renowned rugby player Sam Dickson and the statement reads,

“It is with a heavy heart that today we bid farewell to Sam Dickson, Sam fought a long battle and sadly passed away last night surrounded by his family.

As a club and community, our heartfelt support and prayers go out to the Dickson family during this hard time. Tomorrow, we will have a minute of silence before each of our games and our A’s team will be retiring the 6 jersey for the game as a sign of respect for Sam who previously had worn this.”

Who was Sam Dickson? 

Sam was born in 1999. He was a well-known Otago University Rugby Football Club player. Sam was the brother of New Zealand rugby union player Joshua “Josh” McKenzie Dickson and the son of former Arks player Alex Dickson.

Josh recently played as a lock for Otago in New Zealand’s local National Provincial Championship (NPC) and for the Highlanders in the international Super Rugby competition. He was a devoted son who was most renowned for his contagious sense of humor.

Sam was admired at school for his athletic ability, and he instilled a love of sports in all of his children. He has had such a profound impact on so many people’s lives.

Sam, a former New Zealand schools and Otago representative flanker passed away. He recently played club rugby for Otago University and was a gifted flanker in his own right.

Dickson passed away after a long battle with cancer. The family will reveal Sam Dickson’s passing and funeral plans at a later time.
