The two persons whose plane crashed on April 26 in Watkinsville have been identified by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. Robert Denton, age 76, and Sandra Denton, age 75, were from Williamsburg, Michigan.

It seems the Dentons owned a residence in Florida as well. The Denton family claimed that Robert and Sarah were skilled pilots. They were traveling in a single-engine Cessna 177B between Leesburg, Florida, and Winder’s Barrow County Airport.

According to the family, “Robert and Sandra lived life to the fullest and were two of the most thoughtful and loving people you could know.” They add that it gives them comfort to know that they were together and engaged in their favorite activity—flying.

In the statement, the family wrote: “While taken from us far too soon, we find comfort knowing they were together and doing what they loved, flying. Robert and Sandra lived life to the fullest and were two of the most thoughtful and loving people you could know.”

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the emergency personnel who responded to the crash scene were thanked by the Denton family. The cause of the collision is still unknown. It is being looked into right now.

Georgia Plane Crash: Explained

A tragic plane crash in a field close to Watkinsville “crashed under unknown circumstances”, the Federal Aviation Administration stated on Thursday.

According to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened at 2:30 p.m. off Government Station Road on University of Georgia-owned property, close to Experiment Station Road and just outside Watkinsville’s municipal limits.

As per the FAA, the Cessna 177-B single-engine plane’s pilot and passenger died in the crash. The names of individuals who are believed to have died have not been made public, but the sheriff’s office reports that the next of kin have been informed.

Although information about the collision is still being gathered, Oconee County Sheriff James Hale announced late on Wednesday that the road was closed for the duration of the inquiry.

“The plane crashed to the ground and was destroyed. According to Hale, the damage was so severe that those on the scene were unable to identify the crashed ship right away.

The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA are conducting an investigation. The majority of the land along Government Station Road belongs to UGA and is used for the college’s agricultural programs as well as cattle pastures.
