Nelson Sylvester Ofunwa death: What we know?
Nelson Sylvester, also known as Ofunwa, was a representative for the Eha-Ulo ward in the Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council of Enugu State. According to reports that were obtained on Monday morning, Sylvester was fatally shot by unidentified assailants on Sunday night at his home in Eha-Alumonah.
The attackers broke into the lawmaker’s home, according to a source who spoke to the Daily Post on the condition of anonymity.
The councilor attempted to flee and took sanctuary in a nearby complex, where his lifeless body was later found.
The source expressed tremendous sorrow and called the alleged assassination “yet another tragic incident.”
The source stated,
“After the attack, residents searched for him at his house but could not find him.
We felt he had escaped but unfortunately, we saw his lifeless body in the backyard of a neighboring compound.
“The killing is one too many.
It is heartbreaking; it is too hard for us to swallow. We are in deep agony.”
Celestine Odoagu, a prominent member of the community, told SaharaReporters over the phone on Monday morning that Sylvester’s remains had been placed in the mortuary while police had been adequately briefed.
He claims that the intruders broke into the lawmaker’s home and began shooting at him. The councilor was attacked, and after being shot, he fled into a nearby compound where he passed out.
The shooters who were thought to still be in the area ordered locals to hide, making it impossible to transport him to the hospital right away.

“We suspect the attack to be assassination but it left the police to disprove our suspicions. It is heartbreaking; it is too hard for us to swallow. We are in deep agony.”

Nelson Sylvester, also known as Ofunwa, was an Enugu, Nigerian councilor who represented the Eha-Ulo ward in the Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council of Enugu State.
He worked as a model for the HUES AND SHADES modelling agency.
He pursued his education at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to a statement released on Monday by the state’s police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe.
Ndukwe claimed that the politician, also known as Ofunwa, was assassinated at his home in the village of Umualoji.
The statement reads,
“Police operatives of the command have arrested one (1) male suspect and a member of the criminal gang, alleged to have attacked and murdered one Duhu Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta (a.k.a “Ofunwa”) “m”, identified as the councillor representing Eha-Ulo Ehalumona council ward, on 16/07/2023 at about 11.30 pm, at Umualoji village in Ehalumona community of Nsukka LGA.”
“Meanwhile, the commissioner of police has ordered intense discreet investigation and manhunt of the assailants.”
The event was confirmed to the correspondent by the police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who did not provide further information.
Ndukwe promised to release a comment on the occurrence despite claiming that an investigation into the horrific crime had been initiated.
Since no one could determine why he was killed, the incident has caused friction in the town and other nearby communities.
A suspect has been detained by the Enugu State police command for allegedly having ties to the brutal murder of Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta, a politician, in the state’s Nsukka axis.
According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesman on Monday, the criminal group assassinated Mr. Nnacheta, also known as “Ofunwa,” on Sunday night.
There has not yet been any information made public about the suspect. In due course, Mr. Ndukwe promised, further information would be disclosed.
