The sheriff’s office in Brevard County laments the passing of Lieutenant Todd Maddox. Todd Maddox a beloved Lieutenant’s selfless duties on earth are done.

The passing of Todd Maddox is a significant loss for the Brevard community, as he leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by those who followed his career.

What happened to Todd Maddox?

Lieutenant Maddox was a member of our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office family. In addition to being a fantastic teammate, Todd was also a great police officer, a wonderful family guy, and a wonderful friend to so many.

Lieutenant Todd Maddox lost his battle with cancer as he passed away at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office announced this devastating news by posting the following message on Facebook. They wrote,

It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I share with you this morning, the loss of one of our Brevard County Sheriff’s Office family members, Lieutenant Todd Maddox, who late yesterday afternoon lost his battle with cancer.

For over 33 years Todd proudly served our agency and community with pride and honor!! Todd leaves behind an agency that loved him dearly, an incredible family, and so many friends that are deeply hurt by the news of his passing!!

On behalf of our entire agency we ask you to keep Todd and his family in your thoughts and prayers, and as always, thank you for loving our team members so much!! Our community lost a great public servant and friend yesterday and we were all blessed to have spent time with him!! Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Todd Maddox cause of death

Maddox has been in law enforcement for more than 26 years and is extremely involved in the community. During his career, he has received numerous bars of merit, letters of appreciation and was awarded the Deputy of the Year in 2002.

Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, including friends and family, will miss him deeply. Maddox’s family is in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. 

According to the official findings, it was determined that he died in Melbourne’s Holmes Regional Medical Centre from complications related to his cancer.

Who was Todd Maddox?

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Todd was not only a fantastic part of his community but also a fantastic family man, a terrific police officer, and a great friend to a lot of people.

Todd fought bravely, never showing any signs of pain, and instead came to work every day smiling, doing the job he loved so much and protecting our city with his BCSO family!

He started working for our organization in 1990 and worked his way up to the level of Lieutenant, where he proudly served until his temporary retirement in 2020.

I say brief retirement because Todd immediately returned to the Sheriff’s Office as a School Resource Deputy, doing what he loved most wearing the badge and defending others!

As a deputy sheriff in our Canaveral Precinct, Todd eventually rotated back to Patrol Services and served there until his death. Todd joyfully and honorably served our organization and community for more than 33 years!

With the news of his departure, Todd leaves behind an organization that loved him dearly, an amazing family, and a great number of friends.

Obituary

Saying goodbye is often difficult, and it can be hard to find the words to express how you feel about a loved one who has passed. I write this obituary with a heavy heart to inform you of the demise of Todd Maddox, a true legend. We are sorry to announce the demise news of Lieutenant Todd Maddox and a good soul here.

He was such a Sweet, very professional, and gifted person who will be fondly remembered by so many. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Also, he was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. He was always so upbeat and positive. A great guy to be around.
