Michael ‘Mikey’ Sutton death, Reviver of WXB 102 passed away following a stroke

The comic industry is grappling with the tragic loss of famed writer and producer Mikey Sutton. We should thank him for all the knowledge and information that he shared.

Mikey Sutton died: What happened to him?

Mikey is well-known in the pop culture community for his accurate reports. He later developed some amazing media for expressing his love of graphic novels, the New Wave, and pop culture in general.

He was a limitless storyteller who opened doors for representation and creativity.  The world he has created will live on, as will Mikey Sutton in our hearts.

The Sutton family announces the passing of Mike Sutton.

They said, that Mike collapsed around midnight on Thursday, August 24th. His mother called 911 and the ambulance promptly brought him to the hospital where doctors determined he suffered a major hemorrhagic stroke, almost five years since he survived his last stroke.

Unfortunately, the damage to his brain was extensive and today, Saturday, August 26th, he was taken off of life support surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his mother, Cora; his sisters Beth, Jane, & Cathy; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Memorial services are still pending.

Who was Mikey Sutton?

He was born and raised in Balibago, Angeles City, and eventually migrated to the United States in 1987 to pursue his profession. He was a brilliant writer and the world was seeing it through his bestselling comic series and soon-to-be television show. 

Mikey Sutton has been a full-time journalist since 1987 and has won two Washington Press Association Awards. In the Philippines’ MovieFLASH magazine in 1987, Sutton made his print debut in the illustrious GMA Record Guide.

In 1990, Amazing Heroes published his American debut, reviewing comics by up-and-coming authors like Grant Morrison and Neil Gaiman.

He advanced swiftly in the writing world, eventually contributing to publications including Cinefantastique, Tower Records’ Pulse!, and Fantazia, where he wrote the first U.K. review of Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Sutton joined the All-Music Guide in 2001 and during a five-year period, produced more than 500 pieces for them as the Internet exploded.

The All-Music Guide to Rock, Vol. 5 in 2002 and Scouse Pop in 2018 both have reviews by Sutton. Sutton, who is half Filipino, has adhered to his heritage.

Reviver of WXB 102

Sutton made history in 2002 when she signed the Pin-Up Girls, a rock group from Manila, to a U.S. record company and then collaborated with Sony Music to release their second full-length album, All Seats Are Taken.

Three years later, he revived the cherished New Wave radio station WXB 102 in the Philippines as an online channel that had the original DJs doing live broadcasts.

Sutton is typically regarded as one of the most famous cinema scoopers. He accurately predicted both Sony-Marvel Studios Spider-Man partnerships, the second of which catapulted him to international fame, as well as the Black Panther and Spider-Man in Civil War, Benedict Cumberbatch and Brie Larson’s roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fox-Disney partnership, and the Snyder Cut on HBO.

In Rolling Stone, NME, the Daily Mail, Yahoo News, and CBR, Max. Sutton has been profiled. On numerous YouTube channels with millions of viewers, his disclosures have frequently been highlighted.

Mikey Sutton Cause of death

According to a statement from his family, it was determined that he died as a result of complications from a stroke. He suffered a stroke a couple of days ago, almost five years after he survived his first stroke.

The doctors determined that the damage to his brain was extensive and there was no hope for recovery. He was taken off of life support earlier today. He was 55 years old.
