Mia Barfield was discovered dead in a home in the 1300 block of Coley Drive on Saturday afternoon, and detectives from the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit were looking into the death. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the reason for Mia Barfield’s death as well as any underlying issues that might have contributed to this terrible occurrence. Mia Barfield dead: What happened?

Police from Fayetteville State University reported in a news release that homicide investigators are looking into the death of a student on Saturday.

At around 4:09 p.m. on August 26, 2023, Fayetteville Police Department officers responded to the 1300 block of Coley Drive to help the Fayetteville State Police with a death investigation.

A complaint of a family member checking on someone at a home in the 1300 block of Coley Driver prompted FSU Police to respond. Near the University Place Apartments next to Fayetteville State University, Coley Drive connects with College Street.

A dead female was discovered inside the house during the check for well-being. Mia Barfield, the victim, was a student at Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville State Police said Saturday night. The word spread across the community, instilling feelings of fear, despair, and disbelief.

University statement:

On Facebook, Fayetteville State University expressed their sincere condolences to Mia Barfield’s family and friends.

The university wrote: “We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends, The news of a sudden death in a close-knit community is difficult for all of us and it is important to acknowledge grief and express feelings of sadness during this time.”

Investigation:

The Fayetteville Police Department is now requesting the public’s help in the investigation. Initial information from the authorities suggested that Mia Barfield had been murdered, not just a terrible tragedy but a terrifying act of violence.

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a death investigation along the 1300 block of Coley Drive.

On August 26, 2023 at approximately 4:09 p.m. officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Coley Drive to assist Fayetteville State Police with a death investigation. FSU Police responded to a report of a well-being check by family members at a residence along the 1300 block of Coley Driver. During the well-being check a deceased female was located inside of the residence.

Homicide Detective’s with the Fayetteville Police Department and the Fayetteville State Police are collaboratively conducting the investigation. Additional information will be released as it is available.
