What happened to Haley Kirkland Forrest?

After a valiant fight with cancer, Haley Kirkland Forrest, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on January 8, 2023, in her home in the company of her devoted family.

My cousin, Haley Kirkland Forrest passed away at 39. A majorette at the University of Alabama, for two decades she fought off multiple tumors, various diseases, ovarian cancer, and daily dialysis while losing her husband in a traffic accident seven years ago months after their twin girls were born. I honor her today. She was a warrior with an unwavering faith that became an unmatched legacy.

Who was Haley Kirkland Forrest?

David and Joy Morris Kirkland welcomed Haley into the world on June 30, 1983, in Birmingham, Alabama. Haley attended the University of Alabama where she was a Crimsonette (Majorette) in the Million Dollar Band while her brother was also a musician after graduating with honors from Rehobeth High School.

Haley cherished her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a devoted member of the Memphis Baptist Church. Haley was a sweet, considerate, and extroverted young woman who never met a stranger.

She always exuded an incredible presence that filled the space. Haley was a girlie girl who consistently exhibited the traits of a true lady. After graduating from college, she wed the love of her life, Jacob Forrest, and started a fairytale family with twin daughters that she adored and cherished.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. All who knew and loved Haley will miss her terribly. Her father-in-law Bobbie Forrest, her husband Jacob Forrest, her paternal grandparents Roy Lynn “Jack” and Martha Gaylord Kirkland, and her maternal grandparents John and Lena Morris all predeceased her.

Her parents, her twin daughters Bonnie Joy and Baylee Sue Forrest, brother John David Kirkland (Emily), mother-in-law Glenda Forrest, brother-in-law Josh Forrest (Audrey), nieces and nephews Blake Courtney, John Andrew “Jak” and Abigal Kirkland, Ben and Avery Forrest, special aunt Pam Hall, as well as a sizable extended family and countless friends, are left to cherish her memories.

I don’t know if I can put into words how I feel about my Haley Kirkland Forrest. I have always called her “My Haley.” She will always be “My Haley.” My gorgeous, ”tall drink of water” friend who I met freshman year at UA. Who sweated it out with me at all of our practices and talked about our shows. The most patient, kind-hearted, free-spirited person I know. She lived in the moment and not a moment past that. We were complete opposites, but I think that’s why we were so close. This girl made me laugh until my sides hurt, and she hugged me when I cried my hardest. She held me when my mom died, and I held her when her husband died. I have so many memories with Haley and those will always be in my heart. Haley, I hope you are resting peacefully in Heaven with Jacob and not hurting from VHL or cancer anymore. And I know my mom is rejoicing seeing your beautiful face. Please pray for Haley’s family as they continue in the days ahead without her. Especially her precious girls. I LOVE YOU HALEY KIRKLAND FORREST!!!
