Lufthansa strike: What happened? Which Lufthansa flights are cancelled?

Lufthansa Strike

Due to a pilot strike by Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo, the German flag airline will cancel 800 flights tomorrow. Let’s see Lufthansa Strike.

Lufthansa Strike

Following the pilots’ union’s announcement of a one-day strike, German airline Lufthansa on Thursday announced it will cancel 800 flights on Friday. The airline’s decision will probably have an impact on 130,000 passengers. The airline provided more information, stating that owing to the strike, it is cancelling nearly all passenger and freight flights on Friday from its two main hubs, Frankfurt and Munich.

The news comes after a union for Lufthansa pilots announced on Thursday that they would walk out of work as a result of management’s denial of their requests for salary raises.

Tomorrow, 800 flights would be cancelled

Numerous passengers returning at the conclusion of the summer holiday would be impacted by the almost 800 flights that Lufthansa stated will be cancelled on Friday. Eurowings, the airline’s low-cost carrier, will not be impacted.

Lufthansa was allegedly accused by the Vereinigung Cockpit union of failing to improve on their initial offer, forcing the airline’s pilots to walk off the job in order to pursue their demands.

However, Lufthansa said that the airline had provided a one-time raise of 900 euros (USD 900), or 5% more for veteran pilots and 18% more for those just entering the field.

What requirements do pilots have?

Although the union had requested a 5.5% boost this year and an automatic increase over inflation in 2023, they had also requested a 5.5% raise this year.

The airline said that the new pay and holiday structure sought by the pilots would push up employment expenses by 40%, or around 900 million euros, over the course of two years.

It should be remembered that thousands of flights have already been cancelled this summer due to strikes and staff shortages by various airlines, including Lufthansa.

People’s reaction on Lufthansa Strike

Alexandra Butschko said,

I just read that the Lufthansa pilots are now on strike. The strike is announced for tomorrow. We wanted to fly tomorrow. I hope we can be rebooked.

Craig Bruce said,

@lufthansa Your customer service is absolutely shocking! Flight cancelled last minute due to your strikes this weekend and your help number on the website doesn’t even exist anymore. Have had zero help on any alternative solutions?? #lufthansa #lufthansastrikes
Derek Rae said,
Frustrating Friday coming up if anyone is flying Lufthansa. Strike by pilots affecting most flights especially from Frankfurt & München. Eurowings unaffected.
Laura Howes said,
Look @lufthansa. Flights get cancelled, strikes happen. Having a website that is unable to cope with the inevitable numbers trying to find out what’s going on is less forgivable in the year 2022. Also the chatbot option to rebook is completely unhelpful.
