His football coach Liz then broke the heartbreaking news of Liam Baxter Hiltz’s passing on social media.

This is not a post that I ever thought I would have to make 💔. As a parent, I just can’t even imagine the magnitude of loss.

As such, I ask that you honour the privacy of this family and allow them time to grieve.

Liam was part of our Bulldog Family and played for our Atom division. To the families whose children were on the field with Liam, please hug your sweet children tightly while they try to make sense of this tragic loss. And let us, as a family, support each other.

We are working on ways to honour Liam and will keep you all posted. In the meantime, I will post a link to a Gofundme created by his hockey team manager. The Bulldogs will be making a donation but I encourage anyone else who is able to do so as well.

Rest easy Liam.

Coach Liz

His friends and relatives have been paying respect to him ever since it went viral in a number of different ways. Everyone who knew Liam adored him, and he was consistently the funniest person in the room. The rink won’t be the same without him, and his fellow players will undoubtedly miss him.

Who was Liam Baxter Hiltz?

Liam was born in Kentville. He was the child of Travis Hiltz and Taralyn Baxter. Liam was a fifth-grader at Coldbrook and District School. Being a “old soul” and a sports fanatic, he made friends with people of all ages everywhere he went.

He liked to play hockey, go hunting, go fishing, mow the lawn, go four-wheeling, haul trash, and operate the tractor. He was destined to become a farmer and a cowboy since he was at heart a country guy.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Preston and Dixon, who both live at home, as well as by his paternal grandparents, Peter and Janet Hiltz, his maternal great-grandparents, Papa and Gee (Wayne and Judy Baxter), and his maternal grandma, Taralee Baxter.

His good friend and best mate, Mason Lynch; his golden retriever Stella, who he trained from the time he was eight weeks old and who he lovingly referred to as “Sissy”; and a large number of other family members and friends.

Liam Baxter Hiltz Obituary and GoFundme

Andrea Pothier, the wife of Coach Eric, has launched a gofundme to support the family at this time.

She wrote:

“Hi, my name is Andrea and I had the honour of knowing Liam as his hockey team manager for several years. My husband Eric was Liam’s Coach and our daughter played alongside of him.

On Saturday, August 19th, 2023 Liam was involved in a tragic ATV accident and sadly lost his life at the young age of 10.

Liam was loved by all who knew him and was the always funniest guy in the room. His teammates will surely miss him and the rink just won’t be the same without him.

Liam’s Mom Tara and his brothers, Preston and Dixon are going to need to take some time together to heal from this tragic loss, and Coach Eric and I wanted to do something to help relieve some stress during this difficult time.

We would be very grateful for any support you are able to provide to help the family at this time. Even if it’s just sharing, every little bit helps!

Rest in Peace big LBH (as Coach referred to you). Forever #20 in our hearts.”

All those who knew and loved him will sincerely miss him. The White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located in Kentville, has been given responsibility for making funeral arrangements.

The White Family Funeral Home in Kentville will host a private (by invitation) viewing and funeral service. The family has asked that visitors dress in camo, Carhartt, or hunters’ orange as a mark of respect for Liam.

Donations in honor of the deceased may be donated to “The Beave” Fund, which supports local children participating in minor hockey, or the Kings Shelter of the SPCA.

Even though his life was brutally cut short, those who knew him will never forget him. We can find solace in the information that he is at rest and that his generosity and love will never be forgotten.

We send our sympathies to Liam’s family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Liam Baxter Hiltz.
