Drummer Kirk Arrington, who was well-known for his work with the bands Metal Church, Garden of Eden, and Vanderhoof, passed away suddenly. Keep reading to know about the Drummer personal life and his cause of death in detail.

Who was Kirk Arrington?

Kirk Arrington worked for Metal Church from 1982 to 1995, 1998 to 1999, and 2000 to 2006. He may be seen on every Metal Church album, starting with the 1983 Four Hymns demo and ending with 2004’s The Weight Of The World.

Metal Church was founded in 1980 in San Francisco by David Wayne on vocals, Kurdt Vanderhoof and Craig Wells on guitars, Duke Erickson on bass, and Kirk Arrington on drums. Their 1985 self-titled first album, released at a time when the thrash/speed metal subgenre was still developing, as well as its follow-up, The Dark, created quite a stir.

On 1989’s Blessing in Disguise, however, Mike Howe took over for Wayne, and the band finally found its footing. Vanderhoof resigned after the album because he didn’t like touring, and Metallica guitar tech John Marshall replaced him. The Human Factor, the group’s most socially concerned album to date, was released in 1991, and Vanderhoof continued to serve as its designated composer.

On 1993’s Hanging in the Balance, however, the band lost focus due to the emergence of alternative music and issues with their record label, and Metal Church ultimately split up. The band’s original lineup, which consisted of Wayne, Vanderhoof, Wells, Erickson, and Arrington, reformed in 1999 and issued the album Masterpeace.

The group’s lineup underwent multiple changes during the coming years as various members focused on different endeavours. Weight of the World, the band’s critically acclaimed seventh full-length album, was released in 2004 and featured new vocalist Ronny Munroe for the first time. Tragically, the following year, complications from an automobile accident claimed the life of former vocalist David Wayne. As a memorial to their slain friend, 2006’s A Light in the Dark featured a re-recording of “Watch the Children Pray” from 1986.

The band announced they will be splitting up once more shortly after the publication of 2009’s This Present Wasteland. They eventually returned to the studio for a reunion show in 2012. The following year saw the release of their tenth studio album, Generation Nothing. Early in 2016, the aptly called XI saw the return of vocalist Mike Howe. The next year, under the name Classic Live, a concert album compiling Howe’s appearances on the XI tour was rele

  1. A loss to the better side of humanity.
I’ve been listening and playing drums to metal church since 86. I decided to find out who played them drums like that. 37 years later, I found out he passed. I hope he knew what a mark he left in the drumming world.
    RIP KIRK

  2. I will never forget seeing Kirk play at the Marquee Club in London around 91, Metallica were doing a secret gig and were the support band. Unfortunately we missed them but was there on time to see MC, Kirk’s drumming and stick spinning had us transfixed all night, he even had a drink whilst playing with one hand at one point. Amazing drummer and totally underrated. RIP brother, sad news, so sad. But as a fellow drummer he made a big impression on me. Devastated to read of his passing. Love to his family and friends at this sad time X
