Kerala’s government said on Friday that offline education for pupils in grades 1 to 9 will be suspended beginning January 21. During a review meeting convened by state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the decision was made.

The decision on whether to continue with online form of classes or not will be taken after the second week of February. The school authorities will be given the authority to shut down the classes for two weeks in case the institution becomes a cluster,” said the CM’s office

The government also directed the health and education departments to jointly ensure that students of class 10, 11 and 12 get vaccines in their schools.

Aside from that, the government has chosen to provide assistance to pregnant government employees, stating that work-from-home options will be available to them.

 

“All official government and public sector undertaking events shall be held virtually,” according to a statement.

 

The review meeting also voted to limit the number of people allowed inside businesses and malls, and to request that the district authorities guarantee social separation.

This comes as Kerala reported 12,291 new Covid-19 cases  during the last 24 hours.
