Jamie Crick, a presenter for Jazz FM and Scala Radio, has died at the age of 57. The entire industry is in excruciating pain as a result of the devastating news of Jamie Crick’s untimely demise, especially his former colleagues.

Who was Jamie Crick?

Jamie Crick was a radio host from the United Kingdom. He had held a show on Scala Radio since March 2019. He had previously presented on Classic FM, Encore Radio, and Jazz FM.

Crick, who was born and raised in London, attended Christ’s School before transferring to the University of Westminster to earn a BA in Communication and Media Studies. He spent three years as a presenter for County Sound Radio in Guildford before switching to BBC Radio 3 as a presenter/producer.

Career

He joined Classic FM in 1994, and over the course of his 20 years there, he hosted several shows for the station, including “Opera in the Park” and the attempt to form the largest orchestra in history at Birmingham’s majestic Symphony Hall.

Additionally, he presented the Sainsbury’s Classic FM Youth Orchestra concerts and frequently contributed reviews and pieces to the magazine for Classic FM. He was best known for hosting the Classic FM Requests show during the 1–5 pm daily afternoon slot.

When it was revealed that Crick’s contract had not been renewed in September 2014, he left the station shortly after.

Jamie began working for Jazz FM in October 2014, originally as a guest presenter for The Performance Series.

After that, starting at 2pm, he hosted the network’s Afternoon Drive time slot. and he started hosting the station’s breakfast show in September 2015.

In addition to his Jazz FM program, Jamie also held a show on LBC and a weekend show on Scala Radio. He established one of the UK’s first digital radio services, Gaydar Radio, where he also served as Station Director, and was a founder and Content Director at the theater station Encore Radio.

Other than this, Crick enjoyed football, cycling, music, and current events.

The day after airing his final program on Jazz FM, the 57-year-old presenter for Scala Radio and Jazz FM passed away following a brief illness. However, it is not specifically stated what illness he had.

Tim Growcott, his partner, revealed the tragic news of his passing on Tuesday morning on social media.

I am entirely heartbroken to say that Jamie died in the early hours this morning. He’d been ill and had a fall and never regained consciousness.
He was the very best friend and companion I could ever have hoped for and I will miss him beyond words.

A representative of Scala Radio and Jazz FM paid respects by stating:

Our friend and Jazz FM Family Member Jamie Crick has sadly died following a short illness. We are so incredibly sad to hear of his passing.
Throughout his 30+ year broadcasting career, Jamie has played a significant role in the world of classical and jazz music and was an integral part of our lineup hosting the Afternoon Drive slot each weekday.
He was a kind-hearted broadcaster who was loved by all and will be missed. Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones at this time.

He was regarded as a close friend by his coworkers at Jazz FM, Scala Radio, and the bigger Bauer Media groups. Along with his listeners and friends, they will all miss him terribly.

Following the sad news of Jamie Crick’s passing, friends and coworkers took to the internet to express their respect and sympathy for the deceased.

Radio Presenter Jason Rosam wrote: “Saddened beyond words to hear of the passing of my friend and mentor Jamie Crick. He gave me my first job in radio and his wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support shaped me in ways I can’t express. Forever grateful for the moments shared and the lessons learned. RIP Jamie”

Kieren Mcgary wrote: “Shocked and saddened to hear that Jamie Crick has died. I first worked with him at the then BBC Radio Bedfordshire where I did some part time work while at college. He was always friendly and encouraging. Some years later I worked with him again at Classic FM. RIP”

  1. Very sad news to hear of the sudden death of Jamie Crick, a natural on the radio and many other forms of media. It is sad to reflect that Classic FM in their usual manner basically dumped Jamie in 2014. Fortunately Jamie moved on to greater heights. May he rest in peace and his example inspire us in the future.
