Braydin Lewis, a 19-year-old junior hockey player and defenseman passed away on late Saturday. Let’s see how did the young hockey player die and his cause of death in detail.

How did Braydin Lewis die?

Bradin Lewis, the son of former Komets player Adam Lewis, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Saturday night, April 15, 2023.

Lewis, a member of the Metro Jets of the USPHL and a defenseman, managed to play in 6 games with the Jets this season despite his diagnosis, tallying 3 goals and 4 points. He had been a Jets player since the year 2020.

This sad news was confirmed by the Metro Jets Hockey team on its social media page. The statement reads,

It is with a heavy heart to share the news that our warrior, Braydin Lewis, lost his battle with cancer late last night with family by his side. Lewey started with the Jets in 2020. The defenseman was a force to be reckoned with, a fan favorite, and beloved by everyone.

The sudden death of Lewis shocked everyone who knew him.

Who was Braydin Lewis?

Braydin Lewis, an Indiana native who moved to Michigan to play for the Junior Hockey League team Metro Jets, wrapped up in the largest brawl of them all. He was from Fort Wayne.

Braydin was a member of USPHL’s Metro Jets since 2020. The Metro Jets, the United States Premier Hockey League, and everyone who knew Braydin Lewis send their deepest sympathies to his family as well as the Jets team.

He was described as a happy, smiling and grateful kid by his friends. He was strong and optimistic person.

Nearly all of the Komets had at some point met Braydin Lewis. Others recognized him from the Hockey Fights Cancer Night when Lewis dropped the puck for the ceremonial opening faceoff of the Komets’ game on February 18. Others knew him from the tight-knit local hockey community at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.

“He came in and read us the lineup in the locker room, got all the boys fired up. Everyone understood the impact he had on this team, the community in general, and the Fort Wayne Komets,” said captain Anthony Petruzzelli, after snapping a four-game losing streak.

Braydin Lewis cause of death:

Braydin, a Fort Wayne native and Metro Jets Hockey player, passed away Saturday after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Bradin received a glioblastoma diagnosis in the summer of last year. Medical examinations revealed a golf ball-sized tumor.

“I was like, ‘Mom what does malignant mean?’ It’s cancer, I was like – not good, get it out right now,” he said.

Lewis underwent immediate brain surgery. At Beaumont Health, he subsequently underwent radiation therapy, also known as proton therapy.

His father, Adam Lewis works at Steel Dynamics Inc., and his wife, Kristen, is a deputy sheriff.

The SportONE/Parkview Icehouse hosted a Komets alumni game on August 20 in order to support Braydin Lewis’ medical expenses.

Players from all around North America, including Colin Chaulk, Sean Venedam, and Bobby Stewart, came to play. Both Braydin and his Metro Jets colleagues, a junior-level club based in Mount Clemens, Michigan, skated in the contest.

Lewis, a hockey player himself, participated in the Komets alumni game in August when his side, the Metro Jets, played against former and current Komets players not long after receiving his diagnosis. Adam, his father also joined him in that game. That specific alumni game served as a fundraiser for Lewis’ treatment. It raised more than $26,000.

Unfortunately, Lewis passed away suddenly on Saturday night leaving his friends and family members in grief.
