Raeann Merlino, a member of the GWA Panthers football and cheerleading team, unexpectedly passed away at the age of 10 and left his loved ones, family, and the entire community inconsolable and in mourning.

According to Raeann’s Father Merlino, Raeann developed a sore throat and a fever on November 22.
Her sickness advanced swiftly, causing her to spend time in two local hospitals before being sent by plane to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia on Thanksgiving morning.
Raeann was given the RSV and influenza A diagnoses there.
Her father claims that she was one of every 1,000 cases in which the flu compromised her immune system to the point where her organs were assaulted.

A 10-year-old cheerleader for the 2022 B squad Raeann Merlino received her wings.
Raeann was a member of the B team. The untimely loss of this adorable young child and her family has left the members of the GWA community depressed.
Her father is Jamie Merlino, the Hughestown Hose Company Chief and a Pittston Ambulance employee.
Dawn, Raeann’s mother, has been a vital member of the mountain community and a ray of sunshine on the team.
Raeann always had a bright smile on her face and was so upbeat.
Even though we are powerless to stop this tragedy from affecting Dawn and her family, we can band together to help them through this excruciating time.

According to Jamie Merlino, the family is getting through this with the help of the first responder community.
He urged parents to seek medical attention right away if their child has a fever or respiratory issues.
Students in the Wyoming Valley will wear yellow to school on Monday in Raeann’s honor to remember the “Rae of Sunshine” she brought with her.

Raeann Merlino, a 10-year-old from West Pittston, is mourned by a number of Wyoming Valley communities.
Our Pittston Area family is devastated to learn the passing of 5th grade Wyoming Area student, Raeann Merlino.
Her father is Jamie Merlino, the chief of the Hughestown Hose company and a member of the Pittston Ambulance service.
We ask that everyone wear yellow tomorrow to support Raeann, her family, and the Wyoming Area community.
