The Galway native, who would have turned 60 the next summer, earned a BSc in biochemistry from NUI Galway in 1983. She then went on to finish a postgraduate dietetics degree at Leeds Metropolitan University before becoming a licensed dietitian.

Paula Mee’s Career Journey

Before she established her consultancy in 2004, she worked as the nutrition manager for Superquinn and as a senior nutritionist with the National Dairy Council. She also practiced as a clinical dietician in hospitals across Northern Ireland and was a long-time member and former president of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute, the professional body for dietitians in Ireland.

Ms. Mee was also an associate lecturer on the master’s in culinary nutrition course at TU Dublin and taught modules on human nutrition and nutrition assessment.

This is not necessary to oversell the science behind “eating for health” to get people’s attention. It just needs to be broken down into a few easy, doable steps that the majority of us can comprehend and apply if we so choose.

How did she die?

Paula Mee, one of Ireland’s most prominent dieticians and food experts over the past two decades, died shortly before Christmas. Ms. Mee passed away at Our Lady’s Hospice in Harold’s Cross, and on Christmas Eve, her funeral was held in Booters town, County Dublin. Her husband David, son Cian, stepdaughters Olivia and Phoebe, and stepson Charlie are all left behind.
