Lee Whitlock, Grange Hill actor passed away on February 17, 2023. His former talent agency Urban Collective confirmed this sad news by saying, “Saddened by the death of our client Lee Whitlock.

“Lee was a great character & a great actor who has left a legacy of brave & groundbreaking work achieved at a particularly young age. Lee was hugely entertaining, funny & positive to work with, condolences to family & friends. RIP.”

Fans also shared condolence messages on social media and one of them wrote: “Very sad news indeed. He certainly made an impression on me and his work on The Two Of Us was groundbreaking and hugely important to the LGBTQ+ community. A legacy to be proud of. Condolences to his family and sending love to all.”

Who was Lee Whitlock?

Lee was a British television and film acor, who was born on April 17, 1968 in Hammersmith, London, England, UK. He acted as Bevis Loveday in the long-running British television series Grange Hill.

Whitlock continued to perform in various TV programmes like Shine on Harvey Moon, Coronation Street, EastEnders and The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Lee’s Career:

Whitlock made his television debut at age 12 in the 1980 episode of the BBC programme The Gentle Touch.
In 1982, he starred in Shine on Harvey Moon as Stanley Moon, Harvey Moon’s son, and in The Merry Wives of Windsor as Falstaff’s page Robin.

He appeared in the drama series Dramarama in 1983. He made a brief appearance in the British film Wish You Were Here, directed by David Leland, in 1987.

Later that year, he rose to prominence in the BBC drama, “Two of Us,” which was about a gay love between two young boys.

He co-starred with Chris Gascoyne from Coronation Street in the school-targeted Beginning Out series on Central Television the following year.

Whitlock’s most famous performance was as Sydney Chaplin in 1989. In Bazz Taylor’s television film Young Charlie Chaplin, he played Charlie Chaplin’s elder half-brother.

He also appeared in other well known series like Split Ends, EastEnders, Harry Enfield’s Television Show, Lovejoy, Soldier Soldier, Boon, Grange Hill, A Touch of Frost, The Detectives, Silent Witness, McCallum, Casualty, London’s Burning, and The Bill.

In the 2007, he portrayed a police officer in the film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.

Whitlock played the part of Little Joe in the 1992 W.I.Z.-directed short film for the Flowered Up song “Weekender.” Whitlock played Ben Levis in four episodes of the BBC children’s drama series Grange Hill in 1993.
