On Thursday, October 13, 2022, Katsuya Kitamura, a former New Japan Pro-Wrestler, bodybuilder, and MMA fighter, unfortunately, passed suddenly. The former professional wrestler was only 36 years old when he tragically passed away. The 36-year-old Katsuya Kitamura felt sick on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

He hailed an ambulance as a result, but shortly after doing so, his health began to determine itself. Later that day, the former NJPW superstar passed away unexpectedly.

Katsuya Kitamura: who is he?

In the Japanese professional wrestling and bodybuilding sectors, Katsuya Kitamura was a well-known figure. Due to his enormous body, the wrestler was originally known as “The Wrestling Monster.”

On December 14, 1985, Katsuya was born in Tokyo, Japan. He received his diploma from Tokyo’s Senshu University. He joined the university wrestling squad while he was a student, and this is how his career as a professional wrestler got started.

Career of Kitamura

Katsuya won the 2006 ALL Japan Wrestling Championship in the 120 kg division after joining the university squad. In the same year, he also traveled to the World Championships, where he had the chance to compete for his nation.

Katsuya Kitamura began his professional wrestling training in 2015 with NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling), where he went on to win the 2017 Young Lion Cup. After a career in amateur wrestling, he was a hot prospect in the NJPW.

In 2017, Katsuya made his professional debut with the Japan-based wrestling promotion against Tomoyuki Oka. Subsequently, he frequently appeared on the undercard of key NJPW events.

In addition to winning the Young Lion Cup in NJPW that year, he was also named “Rookie of the Year” by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, making 2017 his most fruitful year.

Katsuya’s career in professional wrestling came to an early end when he left NJPW in January 2019. Later, Katsuya switched to bodybuilding and competed in mixed martial arts for the first time in 2021, where he was defeated by Bobby Ologun via rear naked choke in round two. Through his YouTube channel “Bulk Academy Katsuya Kitamura,” he also gained some notoriety. His final YouTube video was uploaded on October 9, 2022.

“Few wrestlers over the last decade looked like an unquestionable Chosen One than Katsuya Kitamura did in his time in NJPW. He was a charismatic monster. The dude even had a full-blown YouTube channel devoted to bodybuilding and posted a video, not even last week. RIP.”

Another user wrote, “RIP Katsuya Kitamura. I remember when I first saw him, unlike ANYONE else in NJPW, this dude looked fucking awesome. Sadly, he didn’t have a long run due to injuries, but I always thought he was cool.”
