Dimitrious Stanley cause of death:

Dimitrious Stanley died after a three-year fight with cancer. According to a GoFundMe created by Tyson Gentry, Stanley’s former teammate, Stanley received a prostate cancer diagnosis in September 2019.

After a period of remission, cancer returns and spreads. Following his diagnosis, Stanley established Brave Men Inc., a business that educates people about prostate cancer and raises money for individuals who are fighting it.

Stanley disclosed the details of his doctor visits, starting with one to address urinary discomfort that resulted in a biopsy months later, on Facebook in October 2019.

He added in the post that he wanted to share his tale to encourage regular doctor visits and early detection.

“I’ve learned men as young as 35 now are getting the disease,” said Stanley. “It’s not a death sentence if you get on early enough. Go get checked. Stay on top of it. Love all of you.”

Most recently, the former OSU student battled an even more formidable foe: prostate cancer. Stanley, 47, just completed his first session of FDA-approved therapy at the James Cancer Hospital.

The former co-host of Buckeye Football Fever is heartened by the first treatment’s success even though he still needs to undergo five more. “I was down in a dark place, but now I’m alive again,” Stanley told ABC-6 Sunday at a football camp at Ohio Dominican University.
