Chief Joe DeGiulio declared that “this is my toughest day as police chief.” Officer Castro provided exemplary service and dedication to the Boynton Beach Police Department and the community we serve. The entire Boynton Beach Police Department is honored to have served alongside Officer Castro, who was a friend and hero to all.”

Who was Dennis Castro?

Officer Dennis Castro, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, spent 14 years working for the Boynton Beach Police Department. He worked as a traffic homicide investigator, DUI Task Force member, and member of the SWAT Team.

Officer Castro received multiple Officer of the Month awards from the Boynton Beach Police Department during the course of his tenure. Castro was a well-respected member and known for his unwavering commitment to the profession and to the city.

He won multiple awards for his dedication to the Boynton Beach community, including Officer of the Year in 2021 from the Palm Beach County Commission’s Victim Services and Certified Rape Crisis Center.

Officer Castro is survived by his wife and two children. No other information was released by the department. Castro’s Family, friends, and the entire BBPD community shared condolences to the officer.

I have just been informed that a 14-year veteran of the Boynton Beach Police department and a former marine, Officer Dennis Castro was killed in an off-duty accident last night. Officer Castro was a member of the Traffic Division and was the 2021 officer of the year.
