How did the Car Accident happen?

Evelyn Gurney from the Reedsburg School District passed away early on Friday morning in Excelsior, a town in Sauk County when she was struck by a pickup truck.

The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Highway 23/33 near Northwoods Drive, according to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, as the student, Gurney, was waiting for a school bus. The bus had to stop in the westbound lane and pull over to pick up a pupil.

The driver of the involved Ford F-150 swerved to the right to avoid colliding with the bus because, by the Sheriff’s Office’s assertions, he was unable to come to a complete stop in time behind the stopped bus.

Police statement on the incident

The inquiry by the department revealed that the car impacted the bus’ rear right side, traveled down a driveway on the north side of the highway, struck the student, and finally came to a stop in a ditch.

Evelyn Gurney was declared dead at the scene of the accident despite the best efforts of emergency workers from many local organizations and a crew from the University of Wisconsin MedFlight.

The truck driver suffered several cuts and bruises as a result. There were no casualties among the students riding on the bus, according to the officials.

The driver’s and the student’s identities are currently being kept a secret from the general public. For the students who were on the bus to meet up with their families, they were taken to Webb Middle School in Reedsburg.

Families have been contacted by representatives from the Reedsburg School District, and information regarding the many support programs for students will be made available to them very soon. The part of Highway 33 that is near the scene of the crash is still closed as of this morning at 11:30.
