Tmiya Murphy, a 19-year-old killed while driving on I-85 in the Dinwiddie shooting. She suffered fatal injuries and was later declared dead. Investigations are still being done to determine the facts of the incident.

Dinwiddie shooting Explained

According to Virginia State Police, a juvenile from Chesterfield was critically wounded in a gunshot and collision on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.

Per the Police reports, the South Chesterfield woman, 19, was traveling south on I-85 in a 2017 Kia Optima when a passing motorist opened fire on her vehicle.

The shooting happened on August 1 just before 11 a.m. near Exit 63. The Kia crossed into the southbound lanes and slammed onto the right shoulder soon after the shooting.

The 19-year-old was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the police, but they claim she is now in stable condition.

State Police are still looking into the shooting. State Police don’t think it has anything to do with road rage and now believe it to be an isolated event. It is too early in the investigation, according to the police, to determine whether the woman was a target.

What happened to Tmiya Murphy?

Even though the authorities withheld any information about the victim, her loved ones’ social media condolence and tributes helped us to learn more about the victim. Tmiya Murphy, a 19-year-old South Chesterfield woman has been named as the victim. 

While operating a vehicle on Virginia’s Interstate 85, an adolescent driver was shot in the head. At around 10:50 on Tuesday morning, police arrived at the scene of a shooting close to U.S. Route 1.

A passing car fired at a 2017 Kia Optima while it was heading south on I-85, according to a Virginia State Police representative in an email describing the incident.

The vehicle crossed the southbound lanes of I-85 after the shooting and crashed onto the right shoulder of the highway. Police described the victim as a 19-year-old female Tmiya Murphy. She suffered fatal injuries and was later declared dead.

At this moment, details about the shooting’s specific circumstances are few. Police authorities are looking into the incident very closely to determine the circumstances.

What did the police confess about the investigation?

“At this time, we have no reason to believe that this was a road rage incident,” Virginia State Police spokesperson Sgt. Jessica Shehan said at the scene.

“We’ve had no other people come forward and no other witnesses or anything that suggested it was a road rage incident.

Everything is under investigation at this point and we hope to have some answers.” At milepost 63, all lanes of traffic heading south were shut down while police investigated the shooting.
