McCormick, 48, was on vacation with his wife Bettina and their two kids, daughter Cortney, 7, and son Jaden, an 11th grader. Dale, Jaden, and Cortney were swimming together in the sea while Bettina was on the shore, according to a close family friend named Diane Farina who has been in communication with Bettina. A powerful undertow first became apparent to Jaden and Cortney. Farina claimed that when Dale went to assist Jaden, Cortney made her way outside and dialed for assistance. Jaden also arrived at the coast, but Dale—whom Farina described as having a little build—had disappeared. After being retrieved from the water, attempts to revive him proved unsuccessful.

Farina regarded McCormick as being a high-energy coach.

Farina said,

“Dale would never say no to anybody,”

Who was Dale McCormick?

Dale was a vibrant, raucous, passionate, and fun-loving person who was also fiercely competitive and had a profound impact on countless lives. To everybody who knew him, his personality and zeal for life were positively contagious. Outside of his family, Dale’s primary interest was soccer. He was extremely competitive. He excelled at the sport while playing soccer throughout his formative years and in college. He needed a place to channel his passion as he grew older, so he joined neighborhood AYSO program. When he assisted in leading both a boys’ and a girls’ team to compete at the AYSO National Games in Hawaii in 2019, it was one of his proudest accomplishments.

Before taking over the varsity squad, Dale McCormick had a long history in the local youth soccer community. Farina, whose daughter Kyler participated in McCormick’s Oneida varsity squad, said the coach was welcoming and urged everyone to try out for the team regardless of how much they would play.

Tributes to Dale McCormick

Many people expressed their profound sympathies to his family and expressed how much they loved him.

Remembering Dale McCormick wrote,

“Dale wasn’t just Logan’s soccer coach. It’s safe to say that he was the BEST coach he had and honestly one of his biggest supporters in the sport. Dale didn’t just “coach a sport” he taught his players life lessons, both on and off the field, that have helped shape them all to become the young ladies and gentlemen that they are today. We will never forget his famous one-liners or silly antics, that may or may not have resulted in him being ejected from a game or two. But, as we cheered on from the sidelines, we knew it was because Dale loved our children and he loved the game. Words cannot describe how much Dale truly impacted the community and how he will truly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bettina, Jaden, Cortney and the entire McCormick family.”

One of the worst things anyone can go through in life is losing a loved one. Any journey must have a destination at the end.
