Who was Brendan O’Brien: Quick Biography

On May 9, 1962, Brendan James O’Brien was born in Hollywood, California. He reflected on both of his parents’ talents while forging his path.

He was the son of performers Edmond O’Brien and Olga San Juan. Brendan attended St. Martin de Tours in Brentwood, California before transferring to Loyola High School in East Los Angeles.

He was appreciative of his Jesuit schooling and frequently said that it was more difficult than his time at Loyola Marymount. His knowledge of religion (comparative studies), science, the arts, nature, theatre, and music was formed by his experience at Loyola High School.

Since the day he was able to hold a guitar, Brendan’s musical abilities have been apparent and nurtured. He participated in every high school event in the Southland as a teen.

After graduating, he would play alongside renowned musicians. Brendan had a mental inventory of songs; if he didn’t know one, he would research it and perform it for you at your subsequent visit. His life revolved around music, humor, and a never-ending supply of knowledge.

Career

He made his acting debut at the age of 10 when “The Streets of San Francisco” director Bernard L. Kowalski cast him alongside his father in a scene.

His own profession would be shaped by this chance and by spending time with his parents when traveling. Creating the original voices for the “Crash Bandicoot” video games between 1996 and 2004 was one of his proudest achievements.

He supported the Crash fans in their endeavors and enjoyed autographing their artifacts. He naturally gravitated towards creating character voices for television, radio, and video games.

Devastated to hear about the passing of Brendan O’Brien. Crash 1 was the first game I ever played. His scream on the title screen and the “WOAH!” is forever burned into my brain. The opening cutscene where he did all the voices was amazing to me as a little kid. Rest in Peace.

He’s the guy who did the iconic “Woah!” Sound. He was also Dr. N. Brio, N. Gin, Tiny Tiger, Pinstripe Potoroo, The Komodo Brothers, and Dr. Neo Cortex in Crash 1. Rest in Piece, Brendan. Thank you for bringing joy to our childhood.

Man, this hurts on such a deep level. I’m guttered to hear this news. Just like Mel, I wish he had the chance to return to the series (given that he was very keen to reprise his roles). He will always be my favorite N.Gin, Brio, Tiny, and Crash. Thanks for being a key part of my childhood. R.I.P Brendan 💔
