North star mall shooting: Circumstances explained

(3:36 p.m. Sunday)

According to San Antonio police, a man was shot and died while getting his hair cut on Sunday afternoon at North Star Mall. Two shooters approached the victim in the barbershop and shot him “in cold blood” shortly after 3 p.m., according to SAPD public relations officer Nick Soliz.

The man, who was thought to be in his early 40s, was declared dead on the spot. Soliz stated that they believe it was a targeted attack even though details are still scarce and the investigation is still ongoing.

“Although I said it was an active investigation, our victim’s getting a haircut on a Sunday at the mall, and two suspects come in and shoot him in cold blood in the middle of the day,” he said. “I think at this time we have reason to believe it is in fact a targeted situation.”

The suspects left the area. Police searched the area but were unable to find them, according to Soliz. No one else was hurt, and there was never an active shooter at the mall.

Who were the victims?

For the remainder of the day, the mall will be closed. According to Soliz, there is no connection between this crime and the two other targeted shootings that took place recently throughout the city.

Four persons were sent to the hospital following a targeted drive-by shooting at an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Eisenhauer Road on Friday. A 5-year-old kid, a 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy, and a 60-year-old mother were among the victims.

An apartment tower in the 1500 block of Upland Road was the scene of a shootout. It claimed the life of an 18-year-old man on Saturday. Later, Geremiah Hardeman was revealed to be that individual. Numerous shootings have occurred, but they are not connected in any manner, he claimed.
