Hampton shooting: What happened to Solomon Roane?
According to Hampton Police, officers were summoned to the 100 block of Bayhaven Drive shortly before midnight.
When officers arrived, they discovered Solomon Andrew Roane, 24, of Chesterfield County, injured. Officials stated he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The first police inquiry pointed to the victim meeting with unknown individuals in the vicinity. They shot Roane and fled before the cops came.
Hampton resident William Griffin said,
“It’s just a shame really.”
Kevin Perkerson discusses the nocturnal violence that happened.
Perkerson said,
“It was cars parked in the middle of the street there and then we heard the shots. We heard the shots and then we see cars taking off.”
Perkerson stated that he had never heard anything like that. He and his neighbour, William Griffin, describe this as a quiet street where everyone knows everyone.
He said,
“It’s mostly older people that live out here, mostly seniors. We have no problems.”
They believe that this type of violence is perpetrated by persons who do not live in this neighbourhood. They are frustrated yet unsurprised that a shooting occurred just steps from their doors. They are also concerned that this could happen again and hurt the people who reside here.
Griffin said,
“People have a tendency to come here because it is quiet, it’s dark and they want to do what they want to do and leave,” “It puts a lot of the elderly folks in danger.”
“All of the violent situations is spilling over,”
“Like there’s no neighborhood now that’s safe.”
Investigators are trying to talk to neighbors right now.

Family remembers him as ‘Giving Artist’
Family members of a Chesterfield man killed in a shooting in Hampton late Thursday night remember him as a generous and compassionate mechanic.
According to his family members, Roane was an entrepreneur with a passion for car refurbishing.
Roane’s elder brother, Nicholas Jones, regarded his sibling’s car-building process as a type of art. According to his brother, Roane, a 2017 L. C. Bird High School graduate, set out Thursday from Chesterfield to sell a car he had patched up to some potential buyers on Bayhaven Drive.
His brother said,
“He learned how to paint, mold cars, fix them… He learned about cars and figured out, ‘Hey, I can make a profit of this,'”
“I’m almost 40 and I’m not into cars like that, but it was cool to see what he would do, whether it be painting or big rims or style or color. It was his personality.”
Jones believes what happened to his brother was a set-up, and that when he arrived at the place to close the deal, “things went south real fast.”
When they arrived at their destination and parked, what seemed to be two teenagers “got into the car and shots were fired,” according to Jones.
Jones recalled his brother as caring and generous of his time.
Jones said, “You knew that he was there and that he loved you and that he cared for you, And whatever you needed, he would do it. If it was a tool, if it was advice on where to pick up something from when it came to a car, he let you know about it.”
Solomon, sometimes known as Uncle Solo, is the second Roane brother to die tragically.
Rodney, the middle brother, was killed ten years ago when his SUV crossed a double yellow line and collided with a school bus on New Market Road in Varina.
Jones stated that Roane had stepped into Rodney’s footsteps after his death. He now promises to do the same for Solomon.
Jones, his mother’s last living son, seeks justice for his sibling.
Jones said,
“If anybody knows anything, I know this is Chesterfield where we are,”
“But those in Hampton that watch, Solomon is a kid that deserves answers.”
Authorities are currently looking into Roane’s death circumstances, which are yet unclear. The news has obviously crushed Roane’s family and friends, and the community has been horrified by the tragic loss.
