David Dade, a kind man and the Honorary President of The British Beard Club, has died.
“Great wisdom comes with great beard,” they say. So goes the saying. David Dade of the British Beard Club takes the obligation to impart this knowledge very seriously. He was raising money for a good cause, and we send our condolences to all of his friends and family. He will be missed.
Keep reading to know more about David Dade and his cause of death in detail.
Who was David Dade?
Dave is knowledgeable about facial hair because he has served as Honorary President of the Club for the past five years and is a frequent participant in beard competitions throughout the globe.
David was gracious enough to give us some of his time after recently returning from the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, and waxing lyrical about facial hair.
When he was about 19, he developed his first beard. Even though it wasn’t extremely dense at the time, it appeared to be an artificial beard and had a weak moustache.
After that, he cut it to a goatee when he got the first and only job at age 20.
He last shaved entirely in 1985 (apart from his moustache) and hasn’t done so since. He has now been a beardsman for 29 years.
Although his father gave him an electric shaver when he was young, he needed to wet shave to get close, and it was just too involved and likely to result in cuts. This is the reason for him growing beard in the first place. He hated shaving, always seemed to get a rash on his neck, and the neck stubble wore out his shirt collars.
He also had the impression that he was born with a beard. He was aware of his desire to develop a beard as soon as he could to seem as natural as his Creator had intended.
British Beard Club:
In November 2008, he registered the domain name for the British Beard Club website after getting in touch with a few guys who, like him, had attended the Brighton 2007 World Beard and Moustache Championships.
There was a discussion regarding the absence of a Beard Club in the UK among the participants in the British Beard category at that event, led by a passionate man by the name of Russ Sherwood. The Handlebar (Moustache) Club, which has been around since 1947, but was a club for moustached men only, served as the WBMC’s host that year.
After the WBMC, nothing occurred for several months until they were shocked to find that Russ had passed away unexpectedly.
Dave was recommended by a friend that he (as bearded Webmaster of The Handlebar Club’s website) might be the person to revive the idea of creating a UK Beard Club after the two who subsequently contacted him had been competing at the 2008 European Beard and Moustache Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, and he did it.
The British Beard Club’s inaugural meet took place on February 13th, 2009, and they have commemorated the anniversary every year since.
The 14th-year meet took place at The Ship in Chelmsford on Saturday, February 11, 2023. The First Thatch, The Essex Beardsman, has hosted the event each year since 2009.
