Who was Damon Rees?

Born and raised in New Zealand, Damon Rees is an accomplished motorcycle racer.

He is renowned for his exceptional abilities on the racing circuit and is connected to Team Rees Racing, where he showcases his expertise on the track.

Damon, who was born and bred in Whakatane, proudly supports his city when competing in different racing competitions.

As a result of his zeal and commitment, he has established himself as a reputable name in the racing world. Damon Rees bravely attacks the turns, straights and curves of the racecourse while riding his dependable Honda CBR1000SP1.

Fans and rival racers alike have praised his accuracy and dexterity on the bike.

New Zealander Damon Rees found himself in the thick of the action during the penultimate round of the British Superstock 1000 Championships at Donington Park. Rees demonstrated his abilities throughout the practice sessions in spite of the difficult weather prediction, which included torrential rain and strong gusts.

He made an impression in the first practice with a lap time of 1.33.170, which earned him the 12th spot. Rees came in 26th place in the second practice, which was held in a damp and windy environment.

The qualifying session was abandoned due to the deteriorating weather, and race one was moved to Sunday. Rees qualified for the race in position 12 but suffered a setback on the opening lap, falling to position 27.

Nevertheless, he made a stunning comeback and progressively moved up the leaderboard to place 19th.

The second race, which was run later on a dry track, offered a fresh chance. Rees started in position 22 but had his hopes dashed.

On the first lap, as he struggled to gain ground, he crashed at the Melbourne Loop, ending the race early.

Rees remained unflappable in the face of his setback and expressed his intention to rejoin the grid at Brands Hatch.

Rees expressed regret for the incident to his sponsors and team members of Astro JJR Racing, which is funded by Carl Cox Motorsport, and promised not to give up. His right AC joint was hurt in the collision, adding to the previous damage to his left side.

Rees was resilient and determined to try his hardest to recover from the setback and carry on with his racing goals, though.

In 2020, Whakatane native Damon Stewart Rees said goodbye to New Zealand by setting a lap record and completing a hat-trick at Levels International Raceway, close to Timaru. He travelled to the United Kingdom to compete in the British Superstock 1000 championship.

Everyone at Racing treasured Damo. All of them are heartbroken beyond belief. Everyone could see his love for motorbike racing, but Damo was more to them than just a racer; he was a buddy.

His time with them will always be cherished because of the way he approached everything with a devoted attitude, his contagious personality, and his wicked sense of humor.

His loved ones will always be appreciative for having him in their lives and sharing such incredible adventures with him. He served as their motivation for taking up road racing, thus it was difficult for them to accept his passing.
