How did Victorio Palangdan die?

Victorio Palangdan, a former Itogon, Benguet Mayor, passed away on February 9, 2023. This sad news was announced by Independent Benguet saying,

“It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the untimely passing of our dear Victorio Tongalog Palangdan this February 9, 2023. He was 65.”

 “Vic, as he was fondly called, served the people of Benguet all his life as a people’s lawyer and a public servant.

To his family, he was a doting husband and a generous father. To many who met him, he was an inspiration and a beacon of hope and leadership.”, it added.

Who was Victorio Palangdan?

Victorio Tongalog Palangdan was a Filipino politician. He was a resident of Itogon, Benguet. He served as a mayor of Itogon, a municipality of Benguet Province in the Cordillera Region, Philippines.

Victorio Palangdan filed his certificate of candidacy for congressman under the Independent Benguet Party on October 5, 2021.

Education:

He got his Agriculture degree from Mountain Agricultural College (Now Benguet State University). He also studied in Law School, at Baguio Colleges Foundation (Currently the University of the Cordilleras) and passed the Bar in 1986.

Political Career 

He started his career in politics in 2013. He was a former BENECO Director. He also worked in the Fiscal, Department of Justice. He even worked as a former Farm Technician at the Department of Agriculture – Philippines.

While spending his third term as the town’s local chief executive, he also served as the president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines – Benguet chapter.

He practiced private law before entering politics, serving as the senior attorney of the Palangdan law office from 2010 until 2013.

He was a member of the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) Board of Directors from 2001 to 2010, during which time he also served as the organization’s president.

In addition, Palangdan held the positions of Assistant Provincial Prosecutor I from 1997 to 2005 and Assistant Provincial Prosecutor II from 2005 to 2009. 

From 1987 to 1997, he worked as a prosecutor in the Benguet provincial prosecutor’s office. From 1986 to 1987, he worked as a junior attorney at the Fernando legal firm.

Between 1985 and 1987, Palangdan worked as a Farm Management Technologist II at the Provincial Agriculturist’s office, gaining additional expertise in the field. 

And from 1981 to 1985, he worked in the same office as a farm management technologist.

Awards:

He brought the National Organic Achiever’s Award in 2017, and the Seal of Good Local Governance in 2016 and 2017.

Also, he was awarded with an excellent rating on the implementation of the Anti-Red Tape Act given by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), and the excellent rating based on the public perception and financial management assessment tool.

He was bestowed by the Department of Budget and Management.

Victorio Palangdan cause of death:

Attorney Victorio T. Palangdan allegedly suffered a cardiac arrest and died early on Thursday morning in his home in Tuding. He was 65.

Victorio Palangdan cause of death was a heart attack. Palangdan was the municipality’s three-term mayor from 2013 to 2022 before losing his congressional run to incumbent Rep. Eric Yap on May 9, 2022, in synchronized national and local elections.

The funeral service will be announced by his family. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Jofelia Tomilas, and his children Loikan, Goku, Tayubo, and Jayvee.
