A tiny but rising number of famous people, actresses, and artists claim they are leaving Twitter Inc. now that Elon Musk is its owner out of concern for what the social media network might develop into under Mr. Musk’s direction. These users assert that they won’t hold off on learning what modifications Mr. Musk makes. Even before completing his $44 billion buyout last week, he declared he was thinking about making adjustments including easing restrictions on free expression and enabling banned users to rejoin Twitter.
Some users claim that these changes could make it easier for hate speech to spread. Of course, it is still unclear whether these celebs would honor their promises to avoid the stage. More than 237 million people use Twitter.
Musk replied to a tweet with emoticons
Emoticons were used by Mr. Musk in his reply to a tweet on Tuesday about people looking up which celebrities were quitting Twitter. He posted a laughing and a ghost emoji on Twitter. Requests for comment from Mr. Musk’s representatives were not answered. The departure from Twitter was similar to a move made earlier this year by musicians, including the rocker Neil Young and the folk singer Joni Mitchell, who withdrew their music from Spotify Technology SA over the streaming service’s alleged dissemination of false information about Covid-19 on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

After Elon Musk took control of the social media platform, STEPHEN Fry declared he was leaving it. Fry is the latest celebrity to leave the site since Musk’s contentious acquisition. The actor and presenter informed his 12.5 million followers of his impending departure by posting an image of Scrabble letters spelling out “Goodbye.” Fry has previously stated that he is leaving Twitter, though. He departed in 2016 after angering over remarks he made regarding a costume designer, declaring that “the fun is finished.” Later, after denouncing the website as a “stalking ground for the sanctimoniously self-righteous,” he left once more. Since Musk’s decision to leave Twitter, Fry claimed he is now switching to the alternative social network Mastodon.

The 42-year-old singer known for hits including “Brave” and “King of Anything” wrote on Twitter this past weekend that she would see people on other platforms. Welp. It’s been fun Twitter. I’m out,” she wrote while adding: “Sorry, this one’s just not for me.”
Toni Braxton
“I’m shocked and appalled at some of the ‘free speech I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition,” said Ms. Braxton, a 55-year-old R&B artist whose songs include “Un-Break My Heart.”
Téa Leoni
The actress, 56, is known for starring in the CBS show “Madam Secretary” as well as other movies and TV shows.
“I’m coming off Twitter today—let’s see where we are when the dust settles,” she wrote on Twitter on Saturday. “Today the dust has revealed too much hate.”
Brian Koppelman
In the days before Mr. Musk closed his deal with Twitter, Mr. Koppelman, the “Billions” showrunner, said his followers could find him on Instagram and TikTok.
“Gonna really try to take a breather from here for a minute or a month come deal close time,” Mr. Koppelman, 56, wrote on Twitter.
Ken Olin
“Hey all — I’m out of here,” the 68-year-old actor and producer of shows including “This Is Us” wrote on Twitter last week. “Let’s keep the faith. Let’s protect our democracy.”
Shonda Rhimes
The 52-year-old showrunner and producer behind hit shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” wrote on Twitter on Saturday: “Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye.”
Gigi Hadid
The 27-year-old model said she deactivated her account with more than 10.4 million followers. She said she didn’t think Twitter was a safe place for anyone.
“For a long time, but especially with its new leadership, it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate and bigotry,” she wrote in a statement on Instagram.
