He committed suicide on December 28, 2022. On Wednesday, a Minot police officer was discovered dead after an apparent self-inflicted wound while on off-duty. However, the reason behind his death is not known and the police are still investigating this case.

On December 28, 2022, around 10:45 PM, Minot Police Department reports that they asked the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office for help in identifying an off-duty officer so they could check on his welfare.
Deputies of McHenry County discovered 37-year-old Master Officer Patrick Blanchard in his car close to Towner, North Dakota, at 11:30 p.m.
He was eventually declared dead from what seemed to be a self-inflicted wound despite their best efforts to save his life.
Officer Blanchard, who was also an Army veteran, joined the Minot Police Department in July 2017 and is survived by his two children.
The department shared its condolences, saying, “Many days can be difficult for our officers and members of the Minot Police Department. This is one of those days. We ask for thoughts for Officer Blanchard’s family and many friends.”
