Izabella Nash, a Queensland firefighter, sadly died after suffering injuries while putting out a factory fire south of Brisbane. Let’s see who was Izabella Nash and what happened to her in detail.
How did Izabella Nash die?
One of three firefighters who were transported to hospital after the intense blaze sadly died overnight, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) revealed on Wednesday morning.
Izabella Nash, 46, passed away in a hospital overnight on Wednesday after being rescued by coworkers from a fire that broke out at a building near the Pacific Highway in Slacks Creek at around 2 a.m.
Lia Drew, a fellow firefighter, is still in critical condition at he hospital after suffering injuries in the incident.
QFES has reported that firefighter Isabella Nash passed away overnight while being treated in the hospital.
The statement released by the QFES reads, “It is with heavy hearts we can confirm Fire and Rescue Service firefighter Izabella Nash has passed away overnight following a Slacks Creek factory fire yesterday morning. The thoughts of QFES are with Izzy’s family, friends, and crew members.”
Who was Izabella Nash?
Izabella Nash was a heroic firefighter, who is remembered for her bravery. After joining QFES in 2014, Nash held the rank of first-class firefighter, according to the authorities.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk expressed sympathy to Ms Nash’s family. She said that Nash was “clearly devoted to her job, supporting her fellow Queenslanders on the front lines”.
“Izabella’s passing is a terribly sad and poignant reminder of the dangers our frontline staff face on a daily basis.”
Nash’s coworkers remembered her as “friendly and happy crew member and an all-round lovely person to be with”.
Mark Ryan, minister of fire and emergency services, stated that Ms. Nash’s bravery will not be forgotten. “Firefighters face danger every day, they show courage and bravery,” Mr. Ryan said.
“Izzy did that on behalf of all of us, so for us to honor her is the least we can do for the sacrifice she’s made.”, he added.
What happened to Izabella Nash?
Firefighters were rushed to the Pacific Highway at Slacks Creek in Brisbane’s south overnight at around 2.20 am after receiving allegations that a pool maintenance building was on fire.
Izabella Nash entered the blaze with two coworkers at 2:30 am on Tuesday, just before the three were all presumed lost in the blaze.
Despite suspicions that her breathing apparatus had failed, her two fellow firefighters were located and extricated from the flames, however, it is thought that Ms. Nash ran out of air.
It’s believed that she passed out inside the burning building before other firefighters found her and took her outside.
Senior Firefighter Lia Drew, a second firefighter, is still in the hospital and is in a serious but stable condition after sustaining burns and smoke inhalation.
According to QFES Deputy Commissioner Michael Wassing, the injured firefighters were inside the blaze at the “hottest part” of the operation, when the building was inundated with intense fire and smoke.
The difficult rescue operation was under the responsibility of the breathing apparatus safety team. He claimed that while rescues were always challenging, they became even more challenging when fire crews had to “rescue some of their own.”
When the firefighters were extracted from the building, one of them needed to be resuscitated. At around six in the morning, the fire was finally put out, and a crime scene was declared.
