Zara Aleena, 36, a resident of the area in Ilford, was identified as the victim by police this afternoon.
Early on June 26, as she was travelling along Cranbrook Road toward Gants Hill Station, she was attacked.

Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell, the top law enforcement official for the east neighborhood, issued a statement in which he stated: “It is now suspected that she was the victim of an attack by a stranger.”

The attack, which left Ms. Aleena with fatal head injuries, had no sign of using any weapons, he continued.

Upon seeing Ms. Aleena gravely injured in the street, bystanders called the police at 2.44 am on Sunday.
Despite the efforts of the responding paramedics, she was not able to be saved.

Zara died as a result of numerous severe injuries, according to a postmortem examination.
Police stated that they were conducting a thorough forensic investigation of the spot and the immediate vicinity, including house-to-home inquiries.
