Who is Shawntta Young?
In connection with a shooting that left one person dead in southwest Louisville, a man has been charged with murder. Shawntta Young, age 25, was detained by the Louisville Metro Police Department on Monday.
Young is accused of murder, assault, wanton endangerment, and having a weapon while a criminal in prison. The shooting that took place on December 4 in the 2100 block of Cardinal Woods Drive, according to the police, implicated Young. Police were called to a gunshot in that block at 11 p.m., and when they arrived, they discovered a male who had been fatally shot.
Another female victim suffered a single bullet wound in addition. The woman was transferred to UofL Hospital to receive medical attention for her wound. According to an arrest slip, the female was informed that Young was under house arrest in the flat upstairs. Then, after seeing surveillance footage, she was able to recognize him.
The slip further states that a detective looked at Young’s location history and discovered that he had pings in the vicinity when the shooting occurred. Young was apprehended by LMPD’s Fugitive Unit on Monday in the 1000 block of Royal Gardens Court, not far from the scene of the shooting.
