Kiprotich, 26, has been connected to her savage murder. The body of a 21-year-old woman was discovered last month abandoned near Ngata-Bridge on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The magistrate stated that the situation required her to approve the police’s request due to the scope and intricacy of the investigations as provided by the investigating officer Jared Omusungu.

Detective Omusungu from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations claimed in his appeal before the court that the suspect vanished after committing the crime until he was found on January 11 hiding along the Kitale-Eldoret road.

Is the Suspect fit to stand trial?

The police sought more time to have the suspect taken through a mental assessment to establish whether he is fit to stand trial. According to the investigating officer, police also wanted more time to extract some samples from the suspect which will be taken to the government chemist for analysis.

Mr. Omusungu also informed the court that the suspect’s phone will be taken to the cybercrime section so that important information that would aid the investigations could be extracted.

The detective begged the judge to allow them more time, saying, “We pray to the court to grant us additional days to complete our investigations. We are yet to record testimonies from witnesses if the court provides us 14 days will be of help.”

On Wednesday night, Mr. Kiprotich, a medical student at Kabarak University, was smoked out of his hiding place in Uasin Gishu County.

Initial Level Investigations

Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said the suspect, a Kabarak University student, was smoked out of his hideout in Uasin Gishu County on Wednesday night.

He said the 26-year-old student has been on police radar for the past month. Mr. Mwanzo said their investigations revealed that the suspect sent money to Ms. Wangui. She was supposed to use the money as a bus fare to the venue of the party.

He said the police established that the suspect was the last person to be with the deceased in the area where her body was found. He, however, said the nature of the crime could not have been committed by one person.
