A Youngstown man who ran into Ohio daycare during a police chase was detained in Warren and is accused of multiple charges. Let’s see who is Lamar Mitchell in detail.
Who is Lamar Mitchell?
Lamar Mitchell is a 39-year-old suspect who was charged with felonious assault, aggravated burglary, aggravated threats, driving under suspension, reckless driving, and illegal plate usage.
According to the reports, Mitchell, who allegedly dashed into a preschool daycare center following a police pursuit in Warren, Ohio, had a criminal history dating back more than ten years.
Several accusations against Mitchell, including aggravated burglary, aggravated threats, and failure to cooperate, will be heard at his trial.
A suspect’s criminal history includes felonious assault and aggravated burglary in 2008. In 2015, he was also found guilty of aggravated arson and given a four-year prison term for setting fire to his girlfriend’s home after she reported him to the police for assaulting her. Court records show he was sentenced to two years in the Lorain Correctional Institution in 2010 on a charge of improperly firing a firearm at or into a residence.
Mitchell engaged in a two-hour SWAT standoff last year during which he allegedly threatened to kill cops. He later turned himself in after being sought for felony escape charges and received a six-month prison term. Mitchell remained in custody on a $250,000 bond as of Friday.
Unbelievable bodycam video captures the moment an Ohio wanted fugitive stormed into a daycare and shoved children to the side before trying to flee from police, who quickly caught up with him in the classroom.
Lamar Mitchell was wanted by police in Warren, Ohio, for felonious assault when he refused to pull over during a traffic stop. After Mitchell sped past the police car and crashed, he didn’t surrender; instead, he carried on running on foot. Mitchell ran into Precious Times Child Day Care and School pushing open the door following an argument.
What happened at Preschool?
Lamar Mitchell is allegedly seen in police body camera footage running from officers into a preschool and jumping into a playpen where kids were engaged in playing with toys.
In the footage, kids can be heard sobbing as a woman screams, “Oh my God!” Officers instruct employees to remove the kids while they secure the area. A local woman stated that her children, who were present, were traumatized.
Mother of a one-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter inside the daycare, said: ‘I wish they never had to experience that. I was at work, and I just dropped everything and raced to the daycare,’ another mother said, adding that her son was in the classroom Mitchell ran into.
They said that after being knocked over, the daycare provider grabbed him and carried him to safety. She continued, referring to the kid seen in the video, “And then after he got in, they grabbed the other kid.”
The mother believes that the incident has caused her daughter to develop post-traumatic stress disorder.
‘We had a fire truck come down the road the other day, and she was sitting out here on the porch with me covered up in her blanket and started shaking and screaming that she needed to hide because the cops were going to get her,’ she said
She’s just terrified of them now. I’ve been trying to explain to her that there’s nothing to be scared of and that they’re here to protect her,’
