Lafourche Parish officer Nicholas Pepper was killed in a fatal crash on Sunday morning. Let’s see who was Nicholas Pepper and what happened to him in detail.

What happened to Nicholas Pepper?

The deputy killed this morning after a suspect rammed into his car on Sunday morning has been identified by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. 

The LPSO confirmed that the deceased officer was  identified as a 44-year-old, “Detective Sergeant Nicholas Pepper.” 

The Louisiana State Police are in charge of the crash and the criminal inquiry, and the suspect responsible is currently in custody. 

According to Louisiana State Police, the suspect was receiving “moderate injuries” treatment at a hospital.

In the statement, Sheriff Webre said, “We are all processing and grieving this horrific and tragic death of one of our own.”

“We are with the family, providing them with support and prayers at this unbelievably difficult time. We ask for the community’s love, prayers, and support as well.” 

Following the passing of LPSO officer, many people have offered their heartfelt condolences on social media posts.

How did Nicholas Pepper die?

Sgt. Nick was died from the injuries he sustained from the crash that happened when a fleeing suspect rammed into his car.

Sheriff Webre confirmed that the officer who died on Sunday morning was identified as Nicholas Pepper. 

The LPSO released the press statement explaining the incident. Sheriff Webre also poured his condolences to the late officer, saying,

“The tremendous outpouring of love and gratitude from the community is truly appreciated. I ask that you continue to keep Sergeant Nick Pepper and his family, as well as our Sheriff’s Office family, in your thoughts and prayers.”

The incident happened on Louisiana Highway 1 near Kleinpeter Road in Thibodaux before 4 am. 

According to the authorities, Houma Police officers called for assistance from Lafourche Parish deputies as they were chasing a suspect for allegedly breaking traffic rules in Lafourche. 

“The pursuit led officers to near Lafourche Crossing in Thibodaux, where the suspect stopped.”

“The suspect spoke with officers who were trying to negotiate before accelerating and hitting a deputy’s car that was nearby.  The deputy inside the car was taken to a nearby hospital, where he eventually passed away from his injuries.”, according to the LPSO. 

The sheriff’s office reported that the suspect was in arrest, but they have not disclosed his identity or the specific charges he is facing.

Who was Nicholas Pepper?

Detective Sergeant Nicholas Pepper was a 44-year-old officer who was a member of LPSO since 2007. Sgt. Pepper was an excellent officer and an even better man, according to Sheriff Webre. 

Nicholas Pepper started working for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office on October 15, 2007. He spent his entire tenure in the investigations division, most recently working as an adult investigations supervisor.

Over the course of more than ten years, he played a crucial role in almost all significant crime investigations in Lafourche Parish.

Nick worked in law enforcement for nearly 24 years, including time at the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Houma Police Department before starting his tenure with the LPSO.

Christie, Pepper’s wife is also employed through the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office as an investigator for the Lafourche Parish District Attorney.

He also leaves behind a son, Nicholas Jr., as well as two daughters, Patience and Gracie.

Nicholas Pepper cause of death:

Sgt. Nick dead of blunt force trauma injuries at a nearby hospital on Sunday after a crash with fleeing traffic violation suspect.

The community requested prayers as LPSO and the Pepper family cope with this tragedy, according to the sheriff.

Sheriff Webre said that Nick “epitomized all that is honored and revered in a peace officer.”

Protecting the Blue paid a tribute following the death of Nick and the tweet reads,

RIP. Louisiana Detective Sergeant Nicholas Pepper was murdered when a stopped pursuit suspect intentionally rammed his unit while trying to escape after a brief negotiation with deputies. He is survived by his wife and three children.”

The crash and the criminal probe have been turned over to the Louisiana State Police, according to the statement.
