Who was Terry Cagle?
He was born in 1050 in Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas but he spent most days in Tukey Scratch, Arkansas. As mentioned, he was a self-taught drummer. He surged to fame and prominence after joining Cate Brothers in 1966. During the mid-60s the Cate Brothers performed country soul music in Arkansas and the mid-South of the USA. Cate Brothers are twin brothers Earl and Ernie from Arkansas. They were born on 26th December 1942. Later Terry Cagle was inducted into the Arkansas Hall of Fame.
In the 2000s he formed his own band Jungle Bush Beaters. He named this band after his uncle. This band was hugely popular in Fayetteville, Arkansas. But after Cagle’s death, it won’t be the same.
Terry Cagle is a self-taught drummer
Cagle is a self-taught drummer who began working as a professional musician at age fifteen. In 1966 Cagle’s uncle, Levon Helm recruited him as the drummer for the Del-Reys, a group that later became the Cate Brothers. As part of the group, Cagle shared the stage with such bands as the Grateful Dead and Queen.
Levon Helm’s nephew, drummer and singer terry , was a member of the Cate Brothers Band when they played with The Band in the ’80s. He also played as a member of the “Australian Band” in 1988. Terry Cagle and his group the Jungle Bush Beaters, named after Levon Helm’s first high school band, released the album Distant Drums in 2000.
The Cate Brothers are a singer-songwriter-musician duo of twin brothers from Fayetteville, Arkansas, Earl, and Ernest “Ernie” Cate.
