Spennymoor collision:
Early this morning in Spennymoor, a car went into a tree on Whitworth Lane, killing two individuals.
Just before 7 am, emergency personnel were called to the site of a black Jeep Cherokee collision with a tree. At the site, both a man and a woman were declared dead.
We learned from our inquiry that the deceased victims are Durham residents Kim Latcham New and Brogan Latcham.
Brogan Latcham was a Midfielder at Newcastle United. He lived in Durham and attended FBEC. Kim Latcham New spent her entire life in Willington, Durham, United Kingdom.
Specialized officers are assisting and supporting their relatives, who have been informed.
A second female passenger was reportedly transported to James Cook University Hospital with significant injuries; she is now listed as stable.
An ambulance service spokesperson commented at the time of the incident:
“We received a call at 06.45 am today (July 29) to attend a road traffic collision on Whitworth Lane near Page Bank.
“We dispatched a paramedic ambulance crew, a clinical team leader, two Hazardous Area Response Team crews and a doctor.
“We treated one patient with hip and leg injuries before taking them to James Cook Hospital.”
Police Investigation:
An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances of the collision.
Durham Constabulary investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen the car prior to the collision or witnessed the incident as it was happening.
Officers are likewise urged to contact anyone who may have dashcam video that can be useful.
