“We are devastated to have lost a member of our Rebel family,” said first-year UNLV football head coach Barry Odom. “While I had the honor of knowing Ryan for only a couple of months, he already stood out to our coaching staff as an incredible person, student, and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Ryan’s family as we grieve along with them over this tremendous loss.”

Ryan Keeler, a defensive lineman at UNLV, passed away on Monday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. At this moment, it is unclear what caused the death.

Aidan Robbins, a running back on last year’s team who has since transferred to BYU, shared similar sentiments on his Twitter: “Gone way too soon your name will live on 4L lil bro.”
Keeler was a business major at UNLV and maintained a GPA of 3.80, which earned him a spot on the Academic All-Mountain West team for the fall 2022 semester.
Who was Ryan Keeler?
Defensive lineman Keeler, 20, from Chicago, Illinois, had recently finished his redshirt freshman season. Last season, the Nazareth Academy alumnus transferred from Rutgers University to UNLV and played in seven games, recording eight tackles.
Keeler, a highly sought-after athlete who received numerous scholarship offers after high school, made his first collegiate quarterback sack against Air Force on October 15, 2022.
Keeler was a recipient of the Academic All-Mountain West award and had a 3.80 pre-business grade point average.
