The Vermont State Police released an update on the missing Middlebury teen. Police say, “Rescue crews have found the body of the missing Middlebury teen.
Police say the body of 17-year-old Rebecca-Lynn Ball was found in a wooded area in Weybridge. She had been missing for almost a week. My thoughts are with her family tonight.”
That’s not far from Wright Park in Middlebury, where she was last seen on March 29 around 4 p.m. Ball, who has autism, had walked away from a doctor’s visit. Her death is not being investigated as suspicious by police, but an examination will be performed by the medical examiner.
Rebecca Ball missing:
Vermont State Police asked for public help in finding Rebecca on March 31, 2023. A 17-year-old Rebecca Ball was last seen on March 29, at around 4 p.m. in the Jackson Lane area of Middlebury.
She disappeared near the southern end of Wright Park and the TAM trailhead in the vicinity of Seymour Street Extension, Pinewood Road, and Jackson Lane in Middlebury.
Rebecca was described as white, 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 104 pounds and has blue eyes and short, light-brown hair.
She was last seen wearing a red plaid shirt, a green plaid necktie, skinny dark pants, and brown boots. The Middlebury Police Department along with the Vermont State Police conducted the search for Rebecca.
The search operation was performed by Search and Rescue Team, K-9 Unit, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program.
The search for Rebecca was also assisted by VSP’s Underwater Recovery Team, Addison County Sheriff’s Department, the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Middlebury and Weybridge fire departments, New England K9 Search and Rescue, and the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team.
What happened to Rebecca Ball?
Rebecca Ball who went missing on March 29, 2023 was found dead. Rebecca, who has Autism Type 1 and has been missing since Wednesday night, is not taken her medication. When not taking medication, she is prone to becoming readily agitated and violent.
The search for Rebecca went on and numerous members of the community participated in the search for Ball. Many people went on by posting “missing” flyers around town, knocking on doors to inform people that she disappeared, searching neighborhoods and wooded areas, and posting details, queries, and maps of the areas they had searched in a Facebook group called “Help Find Rebecca Ball.”
A member of that group thanked everyone who helped with the search for Ball in a message shared online on Tuesday night. “We ask that everyone respect and give space to those who love Becca as they grieve this loss,” the post read. “Rest easy, sweet girl.”
Rebecca Ball cause of death:
Rebecca Ball’s body was discovered in a wooded area on the west bank of Otter Creek, north of Beldens Falls, according to Vermont State Police. The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington will receive her remains so that an autopsy can be performed there to ascertain her cause and manner of death.
Peter Burrows, the administrator of the Addison Central School District, expressed his condolences to those who knew and loved Ball in a message to the school community on Tuesday night.
Burrows wrote, “Rebecca had a wonderful, creative spirit that we will miss deeply. He said the victim services team from the Vermont State Police and the Addison County Counseling Service would confer with school administrators to develop a plan for assisting Ball’s family, friends, and the school community.
