Who was Mickey Geller?

Micky was a valued member of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Water Ski Team and the Ontario skiing community. The 2022 Pan American Championships, the Jr. US Masters Water Ski Tournament, and the U17 IWWF World Championships were just a few of the events that Micky competed in as a representative of Water Ski Canada.

He was a part of the Canadian junior national waterski team, and he was happy to represent his country by competing and winning medals.

Micky liked nothing more than taking off from the ramp and was ranked sixth in the world in U21 Jump. His early years were devoted in gymnastics, after which he switched to rock climbing and water skiing.

Micky loved spending time with his close friends, riding motorcycles and snowmobiles, engaging in serious discussions and arguments, and simply hanging out.

He lived life at full speed for 18 years, experiencing more than most people will in a lifetime. He was only beginning to scratch the surface of the opportunities that lay ahead.

Simply because Micky loved so freely, he was actually adored by a lot of people. He will be remembered for his boundless potential, empathy, passion, courage, bravery, and determination.

Micky Geller, a member of the Junior National Waterski team, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 18.

Mickey Geller’s passing was announced by the Water Ski Canada sports team on Facebook, along with a moving tribute to him.

The Facebook post read,

“It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we share with all of you the news that Micky Geller, from Ontario, has died suddenly.

Micky was a valued member of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Water Ski Team, and the Ontario skiing community and he represented Water Ski Canada on many occasions including the U17 IWWF World Championships, the Jr. US Masters Water Ski Tournament, and the 2022 Pan American Championships.”

His grandparents Mary Ann and Bob Cormack, Bob and Lynn Macpherson, Larry Geller and the late Nancy Geller, as well as a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and teammates whom he adored, survive Micky. He is also survived by his parents Bobbiann and Mitch, sister Chloe, parents Bobbiann and Mitch, dogs Sandy and Daisy, and many other family members.

Micky’s funeral service will be conducted at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue, (at Richmond Road), Ottawa, on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 1 pm. At Highland Park Cemetery, 2037 McGee Side Road, in Carp, there will be a burial afterwards. After the burial at 4 o’clock, there will be a reception in the reception area.

Ragin’ Cajuns Waterski Team wrote :”It is with heavy hearts that we share with all of you the news that team member Micky Geller has passed away. Micky was a valued member of both The Ragin’ Cajuns Water Ski Team and Water Ski Canada. His love for water skiing was evident in everything he did, from his training and competitions to his interactions with his teammates and coaches. Micky was ranked 6th in the world as a junior water skier in U21 jump and was attending UL Lafayette on a full scholarship. Micky will always be remembered for his amazing work ethic, unending passion, humor, athleticism, and charisma. He loved nothing more than hitting the ramp and flying far but also enjoyed rock climbing, motorcycling, snowmobiling, engaging in deep conversation and debates about current events, and music. The Ragin’ Cajuns Water Ski Team is working alongside Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada to gather photos, videos and memories that will be shared with the family. We invite you to send these to [email protected]. The University will fly flags at half-mast on Thursday, May 18th in memory of Micky.”

McClintock’s Water Ski School wrote: “It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we share with all of you the news that Micky Geller has passed away suddenly. Micky was an integral part of our family at McClintock’s Water Ski School and Club. His contributions as a coach, athlete, and friend were immeasurable. He brought a level of energy and enthusiasm that was contagious and lifted everyone around him. His close bond with our owners, Jason and Jaime, extended to the entire club, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie that we will profoundly miss. His spirit and love for the sport left a lasting mark on the water ski community. His absence will be deeply felt, but his impact on us all will never be forgotten. McClintock’s Water Ski School and Club will be closed on Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19 for his funeral.”

One of the worst things anyone can go through in life is losing a loved one. Any journey must have a destination at the end.
