Michael Hayes death:

A Gold Coast mechanic who was the victim of a cowardly punch on the Gold Coast has succumbed to his injuries. On Saturday night, after leaving Destino Wine and Bar in Sanctuary Cove on Hope Island, 39-year-old Michael Hayes was allegedly attacked. He was approached by a man wearing all black.

Michael Hayes exited the restaurant and was seen conversing with a man. A short while later, the man struck Mr. Hayes in the head. He passed away early on Thursday.

Mr. Hayes sustained severe wounds before passing away on Thursday in the hospital. His death is currently being investigated by police as a homicide. Since the incident, Mr. Hayes has been kept alive at the Gold Coast Hospital but was not expected to make it.

Family is ‘shattered’

Michael’s father, Ray Hayes, talked about his son’s passing and stated how much he loved and missed him. He stated that Michael was still the hero and champion he had come to know him to be, and he hoped that this would provide him with the same solace it had.

People who are in dire need of transplants are receiving Michael’s heart and kidneys, which have been recovered. To ensure that there are more Michaels like him if something awful like this happens again, Ray Hayes would want to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to tick the box and become an organ donor.

Lynda Blanch, Mr. Hayes’ sister, shared a heartbreaking photo of herself holding his hand in the hospital where he passed away on Thursday morning.

She wrote,

‘Forever 39,’

‘Todays the Day Little Brother. Rest Easy Now.

We Love You.

Forever in our hearts.

Justice will be served. My Twin’.

Nik Toolios, a close friend, told the Gold Coast Bulletin that he had to bid his friend farewell on Sunday.

He said,

“We all rushed to hospital, He woke up the next morning very briefly and then just deteriorated due to brain damage”.

According to Mr. Toolios, Mr. Hayes was a “loving father” who left behind two kids, who were four and ten years old.

He said,

“He is a hardworking mechanic, loved his cars and loved his family,

“He is a light in the room and was never shy to meet new people.

“The family are shattered.”

We shall all endeavor to ensure that Michael’s children always understand what a beautiful man he was and how much he cared for them to honor Michael as the outstanding human being that he was.

An interstate appeal

Following Michael Hayes’ death at a Gold Coast hospital a few days after suffering a major assault, police have opened a homicide investigation.

On Wednesday, the Destino Wine and Cocktail Bar incident that occurred outside the establishment at about 9.20 p.m. on Saturday was the subject of a public information request from the authorities. Before passing away on Thursday in the hospital, Mr. Hayes had suffered serious injuries.

Perpetrator’s description:

  • The perpetrator is characterized as Caucasian, aged 20 to 30, with short dark hair.
  • In addition to a dark shirt and tracksuit bottoms, he was carrying a backpack.
  • The man rode off on a motorbike from the area.

Any witnesses of the incident are asked to get in touch with police, according to Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn. (Source : abc.net.au )

Police are asking anyone who witnessed anything or has dashcam video from the Sanctuary Cove and Hope Island regions on Saturday between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. to come forward.

Detective Inspector Ahearn said,

“We know there was a number of interstate visitors who may have [since] returned to their homes,”

“I’d like to make an appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious, or indeed this incident, or who took images on their phone, to please contact police.”

While police continue their inquiries, Operation Victor Lacerta is in progress.

Too Many fatal attacks

A coward punch is an unwarranted, unsolicited blow to the head or neck that is frequently administered from behind. The victim is frequently knocked unconscious, and the risk of brain injury from impact with the ground is increased.

Since 2000, they have killed over 170 Australians, most of which happened between noon and three in the morning on Friday through Sunday.

The phrase “king hit” describes a single, unfair attack meant to rapidly knock someone unconscious. It is thought to have originated in Australia in the late 1800s.

After the attack on 18-year-old Daniel Christie at Kings Cross in 2014, the movement in Australia to label king hits as coward punches grew in strength. The majority of victims—90%—are men.

Friends and well-wishers left condolence comments on Michael’s father Ray Hayes’ Facebook page.
