Over the weekend, a terrible accident claimed the life of Hawkins Independent School District (HISD) student Jaykob Dodd. Jaykob passed away due to the injuries, he got in the car accident.
HISD released a statement following Jaykob Dodd’s passing,
We send our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of Jaykob Dodd. We stand by you during this difficult time, and our hearts go out to everyone in his family and our HISD school family. HISD will have counselors on hand tomorrow for any student and staff in need.
Whether you need someone to talk to or just someone to listen to, we are here for you. The Middle/High School will postpone summer school tomorrow.
We will resume our summer learning program on Tuesday. Once again, our thoughts and prayers go out to you.
Hawkins Independent School District also stated, Our hearts are so saddened with the loss of Jaykob Dodd. There will be counselors/youth ministers available at the high school for anyone in need. We have canceled summer school for Monday, June 5, 2023. We will resume on Tuesday as scheduled.

Hawkins student artist wins prestigious Scholastic award

A Hawkins ISD student recently received a gold medal in a prominent national competition that has previously been won by some well-known persons.
Jaykob Dodd, a junior at Hawkins High School, recently learned that he had taken home the national gold prize in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
“At first, they mailed something, which turned out to be a gold key. And I assumed that was likely for the regional contest, which I had won a few weeks before. I was given the national honor, it claimed,” Dodd claims.
“The scholastic art and writing contest is the largest and most prestigious art contest in the country. It’s celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Former alumni include artists such as Andy Warhol, Robert Redford, and writers such as Stephen King and Truman Capote,” says Jaykob’s digital media teacher Elizabeth White.
Before Dodd was selected for the national team, he had to compete in a tough competition. He cleverly used nature for his entry. “I just started mixing humans and pine cones.
It somewhat resembles mother and father nature. Just made what I think is a lovely picture of two people, one with a waterfall on her hand and the other with pine cones for hair,” he claims.
The small 2A school was fresh off of winning 19 blue ribbons at the Houston livestock show and rodeo, and now are celebrating again. “Jaykob is a very talented young man in a lot of areas, with a very bright future ahead of him,” White says.
