How did Odetta Maxwell die? 

Ms. Maxwell was killed after her car rolled onto bushland on the Port Wakefield Highway while driving alone shortly before midday.

According to a statement from South Australia Police, she was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries but passed away on the following day.

Her death marks the eleventh life lost on South Australian roads this calendar year, compared to four this time last year.

A talented young singer who was killed in a car crash had only just moved out of home with a friend and was about to start studying at university. Odetta Maxwell, 25, who found fame on triple j unearthed, was driving along Port Wakefield Highway, just north of Adelaide, by herself around 11 am on Tuesday when her car crashed and rolled into nearby scrubland.

She managed to climb her way out of the car before emergency services arrived, but her condition quickly deteriorated. She was flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital but sadly died from her injuries on Wednesday.

Her sister Isobel Vlahiotis said their beloved ‘O’, as she was affectionately known, ‘lived many lifetimes and experiences in her short 25 years’.

South Australian woman Odetta Maxwell, 25, is being remembered as a “larger than life” figure. Ms. Maxwell had only recently moved out of the home to begin university when she was struck on Tuesday.

“Her life was challenging juggling caring for her parents and her other commitments, as she was so passionate about all that she did.” Ms. Maxwell was also a talented musician, with Triple J Music editors describing her tracks as “exciting” and a “sweet and carefree piece of music but it retains a lot of heart.”

Her social media feed revealed her exciting plans for the future, which included music.

The woman had bright music careers ahead

Ms. Maxwell was a rising star in the music industry who went by the stage name Pink Wasabi. She performed her singles “Tides” and “Killers” on Triple J’s uncovered in 2019. 

She was a “big part” of their community, the Adelaide record company Future Sounds wrote in a moving message on Facebook, adding that they were “truly devastated” by her passing.

They added, “She was incredibly driven, bursting with limitless ideas, and produced some of the truly interesting, distinctive music that we’ve ever heard. 

Beyond all things, she was just a good person, and we will miss her a lot.

Fund Raiser has been Raised

Her sister Isobel Vlahiotis started a fundraiser for her beloved sibling. “Our dear angel “O” has gained her wings as a result of a catastrophic single-car crash, and is in heaven with her beloved Nanna, Grandpa, and other loved ones,” she wrote.

“As you all would know, Odetta lived many lifetimes and experiences in her short 25 years. “Odetta worked hard, loved hard, and fought for everything she believed in. She held her loved ones close and was the most outgoing, impressive, intelligent, beautiful, and larger-than-life woman.”

Isobel revealed both of her parents had been involved in separate car accidents in the past and had each suffered brain injuries as a result. “Odetta dedicated much of her time caring for both parents,” she said.
