How did Lieutenant Seth Petersen die?

Lieutenant Seth Petersen, a 13-year member of the Charleston Fire Department, passed away Tuesday evening while at home. He was 34 years old, according to the Charleston Fire Department.

Lt. Petersen has reportedly worked at Station 1 most recently throughout his 13 years with the agency, according to the city.  The Teays Valley Fire Department claims he was also a Captain and Paramedic.

The city of Charleston, WV posted the condolences, saying, “We are saddened by the loss of Lieutenant Petersen. It is clear from his dedication to the City of Charleston and throughout the region, that Lieutenant Petersen was someone who put others first, and above all else, cared about helping people,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin.”

“I had the honor and pleasure of working beside Lieutenant Petersen daily and I can truly say there have been a few people I’ve worked with that had more dedication and passion for helping other than Seth,” said Charleston Fire Chief Chad Jones. All of his brothers and sisters at the Charleston Fire Department will strive to honor his legacy and remember Lieutenant Petersen for the countless lives he saved.”

Eight-year Teays Valley Fire Department employee, Captain Seth Petersen passed away unexpectedly at his home. Lt. Seth Petersen cause of death was not revealed yet.

Captain Petersen managed community relations initiatives in addition to serving the department as a firefighter and paramedic.

The death statement released by the Teays Valley Fire department reads, “Earlier, we learned of Seth Petersen’s tragic passing.  He gave many years of dedicated service to the community, and he was admired and respected by all. I want to express my deepest sympathies to his family and to his brothers and sisters with whom he served in the Charleston and Teays Valley Fire Departments.”

Teays Valley Fire Chief John stated, “Although our hearts are heavy, we will endeavor to honor his legacy of honorable service and commitment to others,” said Teays Valley Fire Chief John Smoot.
