How did Ichirou Mizuki die?

Japanese singer, Ichirou Mizuki passed away at the age of 74. Ichirou Mizuki’s death was confirmed by his band on its social media page and the statement reads,

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude for all the greetings and sincere condolences from everyone here.”

“The funeral of the night vigil was carried out by relatives only with the intention of the family. Please consider the bereaved’s heart and please refrain from giving advice, aromas, and offering flowers. Nao, for the farewell party, etc., we plan to discuss it with the family members at a later date.”

Tributes flooded in social media after the demise news of Ichirou Mizuki broke out. Fans and music community members posted condolences to the famous singer.

Ichirou Mizuki cause of death:

Ichirou Mizuki cause of death was lung cancer. He was diagnosed with lung cancer at the end of April last year, and he continued to undergo radiation treatment and drug therapy. While being discharged from the hospital repeatedly, he lived a year and 7 months. Unfortunately, he died at the hospital on December 6th, 2022.

He had a severe condition with kidney transplantation, lymphatic transfusion, and spasms. He has continued to encourage treatment and rehabilitation with the goal of being “active for life,” and I have continued to work.

In July, he disclosed that he was receiving lung cancer therapy. Lung cancer was detected at the end of April of last year. He passed away at the hospital where he was taken by ambulance on the sixth.

Despite having a serious medical condition that included brain metastases, lymph node metastasis, and meningeal dissemination, he persisted in his pursuit of an active lifestyle through treatment and rehabilitation.

Who was Ichirou Mizuki?

Toshio Hayakawa, commonly known by his stage name Ichirou Mizuki was a Japanese singer, lyricist, composer, voice actor, and actor. Mizuki was also known as Aniki, Aniking, Ichiro Mizuki, and “Emperor of Anime Songs”.

Ichirou is most remembered for his work on the themes of anime and Tokusatsu. He was born on the 7th of January, 1948. He sings under the genres of AnisonJ-poprockand R&B and under the labels of Nippon ColumbiaFirst Smile EntertainmentVictor Entertainmentand Sony Music Entertainment.

Mizuki began his singing debut in 1968 singing well-known Japanese songs before switching to singing animation music in 1971. 

He performed more than 1,200 songs in total, including the themes for the superhero TV series “Kamen Rider” and the anime “Mazinger Z.”

Mizuki performed theme songs for shows such as Beast King GoLion, Getter Robo Go, and Jikuu Senshi Spielban throughout the 1980s and 1990s, however, his work was not as substantial until 2000. 

He founded the “supergroup” JAM Project on July 17, 2000, together with fellow anison vocalists Hironobu Kageyama (Dragon Ball Z), Masaaki Endoh (The King of Braves GaoGaiGar), Eizo Sakamoto (VO of ANTHEM and Animetal), and Rica Matsumoto (Pokémon). 

Yoshiki Fukuyama (Macross 7 as Basara Nekki’s in Fire Bomber) and Hiroshi Kitadani (One Piece), as well as Masami Okui (Revolutionary Girl Utena), were able to join the group when he later downgraded his membership to “part-time.”

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ichiro “Aniki” Mizuki. He unfortunately passed away on Dec 6th from lung cancer at the age of 74.

Aniki has been a legendary icon for both anisong and the mecha genre. He has upheld his motto to be “active for life” as he sang his last performance on 28th Nov. The “Will of Iron” will forever live on.
