What happened to Duggie Brown?

Tommy Cannon, one half of the enduring comedy team Cannon and Ball, was one of the numerous people expressing respect to the actor on social media.

“Really sad to read about Duggie Brown’s demise, Rest in peace pal, such a funny funny man- thinking of all your friends and family,” he wrote in his letter.

Brown was a cabaret performer who also made an appearance on The Comedians, a popular show on Granada Television.

The Original Comedians LIVE – 40th Anniversary Show, a DVD that was recorded live during a summer 2011 performance at the Blackpool Grand theatre, was released in 2012 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Comedians TV series. Along with Brown, Mick Miller, Roy Walker, and Stan Boardman, the DVD included brand-new performances.

Brown has performed in a number of theatre shows. He appeared in Shakespeare’s “King Lear” as “The Fool” for the Northern Broadsides Theatre Company’s national tour in 1999. He assumed the character of Mr. Boo in Little Voice in 2013.

Duggie Brown Career

Since the early 1970s, Brown has enjoyed a successful playing career in both cinema and television. One of his earliest parts was as a milkman in the Ken Loach film Kes, which was based on a book by Barry Hines. His sister Lynne Perrie also acted as the mother of the main character.

He participated in the Sunday Night Theatre series on Granada Television’s Another Sunday and Sweet F.A. 1972. Additionally, he made an appearance in the 1972 big-screen adaptation of the popular television series For the Love of Ada, For the Love of Ada. In Colin Welland’s factory drama Leeds United, part of the BBC’s Play For Today series, he once more collaborated with his sister.

Additionally, Brown appeared in an episode of the The Bill, a police drama. In the episode “Police Powers” from series 6 episode 47, which aired on June 12, 1990, he portrayed a football referee.

He first appeared in Coronation Street in 1997 as George Freeman, and he returned in 2004, this time as Honor Blackman’s husband Bernie. He made appearances in the movies Between Two Women and the enduring ITV drama series Fat Friends that same year.

Brown and Martin Clunes starred in A is for Acid for ITV in 2002.

Brown made his Hotel Babylon debut in 2006 as Mr. Cord in episode four of the first season.

Sorry to hear Duggie Brown’s died. He was the second cast member to sign my Kes VHS, when I shot a corporate with him in the mid-90’s. The first was Brian Glover. When Duggie saw his name he said ‘Typical Glover, no room left for anyone else.’
